I heard that The Sphere is losing tons of dough. This won't help.

The place is spectacular. Off the hook. Go while you can. Just visiting it for a tour is worth it. For a concert, the visuals and sound are 10 out of 10. It was a great place to say good bye to Bobby.

Maybe not for this year, but the name of the show there was "Dead Forever" I wouldn't bet against them playing there in the future with John, Jeff, Oteill, Jay Lane, and... TBD

Last saw him with "Dead & Company" at the Sphere in Vegas June 2024. My wife took this picture at the show. Kinda looks like Bobby in heaven. You can see Bobby and the band at the bottom of the pix and, of course, on the roof of the Sphere.

Today... picked up Peruvian and Brazilian food at Parkville Market then walked over and spent the afternoon at Dead Language Beer Project. All live Dead music jamming. We were there probably 15 minutes before my wife said, "is this still the same song that was playing when we came in?" 😉
It was. (China cat sunflower > i know you rider).

In 2007, living in Ft Greene Brooklyn with roommates, we had a backyard BBQ for my birthday, end of August. My attractive Brazilian roommate said "I have a friend coming over you might appreciate". It was John Perry Barlow. Just cruised up on his motorcycle and hung out for 4 hours. He told so many stories. The Dalai Lama, aliens, oh yeah, Bobby's in town too he may come over. "Anyone have a guitar". Bobby didnt make it over, who knows. It was insane. Ill be listening to the Dead all week.

I had a chance to hang out with him (JPB) at a party in Fairfield in 2005, Bobby's partner in crime. Great humble guy, brilliant, very involved with internet freedom. I knew enough not to ask him about music, so I asked about his golf game, he laughed. I pulled out a nice fatty, we partook. Then he asked if I had any blow, I didn't/don't, but a true rock star move!

There's also a long standing rumor that when you see a picture of JP Barlow with his daughters, one looks suspiciously like Weir. Google the image and judge for yourself.
 
for the deeeeeeeeeeep divers. Bob's guitar work isolated from a show in '89. On its own, it sounds bizarre at times, and he does more single-note work than you'd realize. But it was the perfect connector between Jerry and Phil. On a pink Modulus as well, with too much chorus. No short shorts, though. Gotta love the 80s. Also, 900000 different chord inversions. Weir was a monster player who was so overlooked.

 
I saw them in 1988 in Maine at Oxford Plains racetrack. This was an outdoor show and it was great. That was my first time seeing them; saw them a second time in Hartford, indoors, not as good probably due to it being indoors.

I went with a friend who got the tickets. We were going to camp across the lake near the race track but when we drove up, my friend said let’s just drive through the concert area and check it out a little.

We saw there were plenty of spots to camp right there so we ended up pitching out tent in a grass parking lot alongside other campers.

This was Friday night & the show was Saturday night.

I thought it looked a little sketchy; the deadheads were kind of, I don’t know, disheveled, as we walked around the parking lot people were selling food or beers or pot- it was fun too.

The next morning we woke up to a nice sunny day and my friend said hey, I was just up to go to the bathroom, the port-a potty in the parking lot here is kind of dirty, but he said use one in this field over there, pointing in the direction, that one is clean and no one is there.

I did need the bathroom and went to the farther one like my friend said & yes, there was no one there & it was nice and clean.

was reading a book at the time- the Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann- it’s a long book with long chapters. Well, I’m in the bathroom doing my thing & finishing a chapter.

Must’ve been there a while ‘cuz when I got out, there was a line of people waiting to use the bathroom. They saw me with the book and asked “were you reading in there?” and I said yeah, I always read in the bathroom.

They were a little upset- I thought that Dead Heads were peaceable people. Well it was a great show anyway, I think Little Feat opened the show. Fun time- no real responsibilities or worries in life then- wish I could go back!

It's been well-established that the 80s scene, post "Touch of Grey," was very, very, very different.
 
I spent a few hours yesterday in Black Rock, which is a perfect neighborhood to celebrate Bob Weir's life.

Harborview was jam-packed and they were blasting Dead all day.
