A lot of you may be thinking, "Who?", but the dude had himself a career, gaining nominations for Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, Emmys and Tonys for his songwriting and scores.

You know him for writing and playing on "Stacy's Mom" with Fountains of Wayne, or maybe from writing the theme song from "That Thing You Do". Personally, I think he wrote the best C&W song ever.

Anyway, I was a fan, and sorry to see him go so soon, especially from this freaking virus.

Always had a soft spot for the band. I grew up a mile from "Fountains of Wayne" and married a woman named Stacey (so the song is a bit creepy for me). He was a talented guy. My wife loved Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Not a show that guys could typically watch, but the songs in it were pretty hysterical. He co-wrote most of them.

It always hits home a bit harder when you felt a connection with an artist that dies. He was only a bit older than me. RIP.

I just replied on your food song post that 10cc was like a British Steely Dan, and now this.

Fountains of Wayne would be a subsequent generation's Steely Dan, with Collingwood and Schlesinger updating Becker and Fagen, by telling short clever, tuneful, non-autobiographical short stories obviously with less snark or jazz chops. He did have a career. Wow.

Welcome Interstate Managers has so many bangers. Major RIP to him. Stay safe everyone!

Funny thing about that album - Stacey's Mom is the one song I almost always skip over. Lots of gems there.

It's still great. I love "you missed a spot over there".

.-.
I've decided give "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" a try on Netflix, to check out his final output, apparently >150 more songs, albeit in a different vein.

I remember "Utopia Parkway" as a huge letdown from the first album, but not this song.

I was wondering what happened to Bun E. Carlos after they threw him out of Cheap Trick.

Not very familiar with FOW aside from "Stacy's Mom", but this one particularly got to me yesterday.

Gotta respect lifers like Schlesinger who worked hard for their craft, both in songwriting and touring.

Listening to the Tinted Windows album right now. I'm really liking it, reminds me of the Rubinoos. Adam really knew his way around a hook.
