He's easy to joke about because of his personal life and lack of trustworthiness but the guy is an unbelievable coach. He's on my Mount Rushmore and if I'm choosing someone to put together a team to win now I'm taking him over anyone who has ever coached college basketball. St. John's was a dead program for basically the past 25 years. He took 6 guys and has them running through walls and running roughshod over the Big East.

Glad he's here because the Big East would be uninteresting without him this season.

It’s kind of insane to think about the job he’s done at every stop. PC to the final four and Kentucky to final fours/championship and ushers in the 3pt era. Pros didn’t work and then comes back and wins a title at Louisville. Then takes over Iona and St John’s and turns both into NCAA tourney teams in zero time.

Dude is a total tool. But as a coach he’s as good as there’s ever been.

He's won everywhere he's been including the NBA. Just looking at his coaching records the jump in first and then to the 2nd year it's insane.

He did bring the Knicks from 38 to 54 wins then bolted to Kentucky, he brought the Celtics from 15 to 36 wins problem was having him be the GM, paying the likes of Andrew Declerq and Travis Knight (sorry no offense).

The fact people are trashing his strategy when we paid everyone on our roster the last 3 years is insane.
They came the closest to beating us last year in the BET and we were a total juggernaut and he beat us for a half as a 16 seed.

Such a good coach he's able to get people to overlook the fact he paid hookers to seduce 16 year olds in under a decade

No matter how anyone spin it, the guy can flat out coach. The turn around job he did at St Johns is unbelievable. That team will be tough out in the tournament.

Pitino story. His first HC job was BU. I was a freshman. He had open tryouts and a friend and I showed up. At the open tryout he said you have to be better than someone I've already got to keep you. Great experience, neither i nor my friend made the cut. Not sure he kept anyone from the tryout.

But he took a BU team that stunk and couldn't recruit to, and made them competitive year one.

Pitino has been a great coach for decades, nothing new here. The job he did at Iona was impeccable. And of course he's done an incredible job at St. John's.

The portal and NIL has enabled great teams to be built from scratch in 1 off-season. But you still have to coach them, and that he sure can do as well.

Some in threads and chat claim st.j can't beat the better teams in cbb. I don't see how they reach that conclusion. Yeah they may lose in the tourney. Mostly everybody does. But they can beat the top 5 teams.

Frankly I don't even know why I give those comments life, but here I am.
