Lagow was ten toes in, got thrown a curveball, and ultimately stuck with his commitment. We were Boyle's back up plan. I'm hoping whoever starts ends up all conference, all American, etc. etc. But if I had to pick one to root for, it would be Lagow.

I don't see it the same as you, and that's alright. I don't have a horse inis race other than the best player plays. At the end of the day, I want them to compete on the field and let the chips fall where they may.

When you think about it. Tim Boyle was also thrown a curveball when Coach Spaziani was fired. He took a step back, looked at his options, and found (what he hopes is) a better situation than B.C.'s new offense. A verbal is not binding and it's not like he forced UConn to give him a scholarship. UConn was a willing partner.

I think Richard Lagow did the exact same thing. He took a step back and weighed his options and that's a perfectly acceptable course of action. Ultimately he decided on UConn. (I believe he had at least passing interest from West Virginia, North Texas, and Arizona). That said, I don't think any more or less of either Boyle or Lagow because of what happened leading up to the first Wednesday in February. Remember, Mr. Lagow stated that Richard did not need a football scholarship to attend college.

Prior to NLI day, the player has most, if not all, of the leverage and it reverts to the school after the fax is sent. On the other hand, the school has to be able to cover themselves, given the non-binding nature of the verbal commitment. The real curveball was Kivon Taylor, not Boyle.

Gee, I'm so glad you took a thread about how a football player is performing this summer and derailed it back to NLI drama from last February. ;)

Not all him. You were commenting on this quote.

"With all due respect, what a downer. And what's with the "Young Richard" "by a factor of 10" reference? Maybe it's just me, but it comes off as snarky and condescending.."

You are arguing your own statements not the post as written. cttxus found several of the comments "snarky and condescending"; never said were bad or controversial about Lagow. The "snarky and condescending" was Husky25 comments towards the posters who here noted Lagow was their favorite and other posters on other threads who have been doing "All the gushing over the young man" as noted by Husky25.

How about "but the high flying speculation vis a vie Young Richard seems to outweigh Casey Cochran (Remember him? Last year's Golden Child), Tim Boyle, and Kivon Taylor by a factor of 10 combined." - you don't find the CC comment "snarky and condescending" related to other posters being fickle/armchairOC's?

You don't find the "young" before Richard with no "young" before Tim, Kivon, Casey as "snarky"?

I think you are reading far too deep into what was meant as a benign adjective.

I think you quoted the wrong post...;)

Let's (that's my plural for "let all of us") move on please . . . Lot's of good stuff is happening with Husky football, despite all the other stuff that seems to get more than it's' share of attention.

I just can't wait until Cody Endres gets his chance to be a full-time starter without having to look over his shoulder.

What do you mean he's off the team?!?

I'm excited to find out what the new kids can do but we've got literally nothing to comment on.

Hype won't help the kid. Let him breathe. Except for a few weeks of Frazer and Endres, Whitmer was already the best QB since DO. Unless Boyle or Lagow is a savant the program is much better off letting those kids develop while the upperclassman play. It's called win-win.

The OP just asked if anyone heard how he was doing because he was his favorite, he didn't anoint him. Why is it such a bad thing to say they have a favorite for whatever their reason is, that someone needs to be slap them down for it? I want the team to win, I want the best players playing, doesn't mean I can't cheer for one that I like to be one of the players making a difference on Saturdays. If he's not then he has to work harder, and I'll be pulling for the guy who won the job, in the interim he has to put in the extra work to improve to win the job. No one here is putting pressure on any of them by saying they like the kid and that they are rooting for him to do well, certainly no more pressure than they put on themselves.

On a lighter note (I'm laughing as I type this) this discussion kinda reminds me of another famous quote as follows . . . by Pogo, circa 1972. Bottom line, we have great upside potential at QB for years to come, including Whitmer, the class of 2013, Marchi, etc. Sometimes I think good news is as hard to get used to as bad news.

I thought PP nailed him to the bench.

Am I the only one that can't figure out what all the bickering is about?

Personally, I'm excited because Whitmer is a relatively seasoned starter who, if he can get out INTs down, could be about as good as we've ever had at the position and behind him we have a very promising group of young guys. We have the two top QB recruits to come out of CT in the last five years on the team and a great looking prospect from football crazy Texas that looks really promising all waiting in the wings. This is what we've been pining for since Orlovsky graduated. Obviously there's no guarantee we'll break 3,000 yards passing, but it seems like everyone's pretty optimistic.

I have no delusions of grandeur that my words are going to crush the self-esteem of young men that have already faced down challenges larger than my inflated opinions. These guys realize that the worst of them is 100x better at what they do than 99% of us. I'm ecstatic to see how they develop and confident that a Lagow/Boyle competition could result in one or two of the best QB's in the history of the program. That isn't pressure it's praise. I'll take my chances on being wrong but I doubt it.

Don't let me down guys! (lol)

Can you imagine this board if our young "pups" at QB can't light it up in the AAC over the next few years?

I can't even fathom the atmosphere around here. :(
