Brilliant, just brilliant.“That’s a woman’s thing, revenge,’’ Auriemma said. “I don’t think guys are looking for revenge. So maybe the players on the team want revenge. I don’t even know what that word means, revenge.’’
But why is it a “woman’s thing?’’ …
“Because women vengeful,’’ Auriemma said. “They’re always looking for revenge. At the least the women I know. Maybe you guys are different so I apologize. But I think that if you go into (tonight’s) game and you say, `Geez, we want to beat them because of what they did to us on Senior Night’… I’ve always said that if we beat them (tonight), they don’t give us the Senior Night win back. It’s theirs. They took it. It’s theirs. We can’t get it back. If they were carrying it in their pocket and we could beat them up and take it from them that would be different. But that’s gone. It’s over and done with. They beat us fair and square. Beating them (tonight) just gets us to Tuesday night’s game. It doesn’t really change anything that’s happened in the past. It’s just an opportunity to get to Tuesday night’s game, and it just happens to be St. John’s.’’
Agree. I was trying to figure out yesterday who to root for between SJU and L'ville and in reality a win over SJU tonight will feel much better than a win against L'ville (assuming that UConn actually wins that after last night game and the miserable offense of UConn, is not a certainty)Geno may not be "buying" it but fortunately for him, no one is trying to sell it. Having said that, the kids are human and they certainly are aware that the team had some culpability in SJU's upset win on Tiff's senior night. Aside from the fact that they want to win the BET, i'm sure a win will feel a bit sweeter at the expense of the team who broke their home court winning streak just a few weeks back.
i get Geno's point that SJU won fair and square. winning tonite won't get that back. but it's like saying "beating Seton Hall has the same emotinal impact as beating ND or Tennessee". i think the team feels a much bigger high from beating a rival. and i think they will feel a different kind of satisfaction should they beat SJU tonite. Avenge? Revenge? maybe those are the wrong words.
then again, what do i know. maybe it's just sweeter for the fans. i know it will be for me, should we win... and i know that because i was rooting for SJU over L'ville so we could get another crack at them.
.Somebody explain to Geno that the great national satisfaction over the death of Osama Bin Laden had a large quotient of revenge...
Just as long as Caroline Peck doesn't pick us.Kara Lawson just said she expects to see UConn and ND in the Big East finals. We'll see!
