You got the Houston score wrong. Houston is down 27-13 right now. I do see some signs of life out of Cougars so there is still hope.

Memphis losing to a bad FCS team. Bad opening weekend for the NNBE schools.

am I missing something? Is the score not 21 - 12 early in the 4th quarter? This is still a ball game. I saw your post and expected a 30 point lead.

Memphis' inclusion alone prevents the Big East from being a major conference. They are hysterically bad, everything about them is hysterically bad, and there's no reason to think it'll ever change, at all.

Some of Long's decisions tonight in SDSU/Washington are real head scratchers. Basically cost his team 4 points, which they could really use right now.

Geez, apparently SDSU doesn't have a field goal kicker. They just passed up a 25 yard field goal that would have cut the lead to 6 with 4 min to go, because they have no confidence in their kicker. 25 yards.

I have never heard of a D1 football program that does not have a kicker that can kick extra points. High School teams have kickers who can kick extra points.

I didn't realize that. They have tried for and failed to convert on two 2 point conversions. How do you come out of training camp with no kicker?

I was listening to the radio broadcast. They have kickers but the coach (per the radio broadcast) has no confidence in them. SDSU fans must be sick. They could have been in that game if the coach liked their kickers. We are talking extra points and a 25 yard field goal.

Looks like it's time for them to go scout the soccer team.

I love ragging on 'Cuse and Pitt and how they did this weekend and such but we need to be careful what we say. We are "welcoming" in a team that lost to a FCS team that went 5-6 last year (Memphis) and a team that got beat solidly by a team that just made the move to FBS (Houston). So while I enjoy reveling in 'Cuse and Pitts loses, we need to keep it in perspective to what's entering our own future conference.....

Yeah Navy also lost by 40... not exactly a banner day for either league.

So we are surprised that average teams from non-BCS conferences (except Boise St.) are performing poorly?

Not only is NBC reconsidering a BE offer, but ESPN is desperately trying to figure out how to unload the ACC contract.

Some NBE teams are having down years -- Houston for instance -- but they'll be back. Some of the other teams that have been perpetually down, like SDSU, will be transformed as recruiting destinations with a major league affiliation and TV dollars.

Personally, I don't think it's bad to have a few weak teams in a league. Parity in the Big East really hurt the league's national image because often the champ seemed marginal top 25 material. Let a team go 11-2 or 12-1 or 13-0 once in a while, it's good for attention.

You weren't surprised that Houston got buried by Texas State? You should have let someone know ahead of time. It's only the 7th time since 1980 a team that was a 34 point or higher underdog won straight up.

A 34 point underdog winning their first game by 17 points on the road against a team who went 13-1 last year. Yes, I'd say the entire world is surprised.

I'm afraid that Houston and SMU will sink right back to where Memphis has always been.

Washington was preseason #27 in the AP poll. Only 3 PAC teams are ranked higher.

Yes preseason polls are not overly meaningful but clearly many think they're the 4th or 5th best team in the PAC.

And final was 21-12.

Boiseand Houston aren't what they were last year. The Houston result stinks nonetheless. However given the loss of a great QB Boise did a great job on the road. I'm still laughing at all the accolades given Cuse and Pitt "strengthening" the ACC. What a huge thud heard round the offices of ESPN. Boise will rebound because they have a coach who knows what he is doing. SDST should find a new one.
