Respect the 6 (JH Memorial at the Rent)

I might be out of step here but the site might be the problem. It is basically in front of a refreshment area.

My guess that most folks do not know the story. And there is axiom know as the law of open surfaces -- that any open surface will eventually fill with stuff. It is just a good place to put your beer.

I would tend to give these guys a pass. I think it will continue to happen as long as the site and the height remain the same. Moving it to a location more fitting for memorial should, perhaps, be considered.

Here is the thing. Part of why I waited a week to post about it - to let me cool off. I get why it happens. But also - there is a "barrier" around it, and if someone asks you politely to move your drink just do it. Had I not gotten cursed out (twice) I wouldn't have even mentioned it here. Honestly - it is the cursing ME out for something THEY did which is CLEARLY inappropriate is the issue.

Normally - there are a lot of former players around the area (including Andre Dixon usually) - the last thing I'd like to see is for things to escalate.

Honestly - just hoping that people are a little more aware and just try and do the right thing.

I think the memorial should be moved on Campus. In the Burton Family Football Complex.

I think it should be moved to the field right outside the players entrance so that they can tap it on their way to the field.

Dave actually proposed that but got blowback from people who were involved with the monument, including a poster on this board who can talk about it if he wants to.

The issue, as I recollect, it was less about the moving and more about moving it without reaching out to some of the key contributors in the family. I would imagine there would be very little opposition to the move given that it's intended to give the monument and Jazz's memory the respect they deserve. It's just a matter of actually reaching out to them and coordinating with them.

For what it's worth, it's a big deal to move the monument. It is very substantial.

Meh, cursing you out was classless, but shouldn't have been unanticipated. To me, the bigger deal is that people treat it disrespectfully. It's not unsurprising given its location, but it's still disappointing.

There ARE many, but I don't think that's the reason for this. A lot of people are constantly on guard about any stranger calling them out for anything. In that case, it's much easier to to say, "Who TF are you?" than "My fault, I didn't think of it that way", because a stranger calling someone out from nowhere raises an immediate red flag for some people, regardless of the specific issue being addressed. Obviously, you are right about the disrespect, but it seems like putting things down on Jazz's monument has become an accepted action, and with the hindsight of 20/20, I probably would've told someone in authority if that got my attention. But if I did decide to call out a stranger on something like that, I wouldn't surprised by a hard comeback and would be ready to "go all in" to support my conviction.

i have never been to the rent, but i'm familiar with the 6 statue from photos... it sounds like they should simply put a waist-high chain and 4 corner poles around it, forming a perfect square perimeter. I would have assumed something like that statue would have a safety perimeter around it, to avoid such instances.

This is a good idea and I was thinking the pedestal should be 10-20 feet high so it can be seen from every seat.

I would understand it if I yelled or cursed at them. But I didn’t. So the responses were way out of line IMHO. But I don’t care about that really. I have thick skin. It is more about getting people not to do it. It is disrespectful.
