Jonathan Hock's ESPN 30 for 30 segment entitled "SURVIVE AND ADVANCE" a then and now on NC State's preposterous title run in 1983 under the late Jim Valvano.
As we begin March Madness, here's as inspirational and at times heartbreaking a piece as one could imagine - should be required viewing for most every player at every level. And especially our own UConn ladies given the events of the past month or so.
While I remember watching the championship game, I had no idea (or memory at least) of just how many times NC State won games in which they had utterly lost.
Valvano was a marvelous game day coach with an incredible ability to sense when a game was turning and exactly what to do about it - even if it meant going against every coaching axiom in "the book." An innately "outside the box" kinda guy before the term even existed in the public consciousness.
Anyone who can get through this piece without tears needs therapy!
