Good show. Surprised Natalie didn't make the cut. I presume Justine asked Geno about Natalie during the interview process.

BTW, Justine is a ND graduate. Wonder who she'll be rotting for next week:)

Pure gold. Geno in a "transition year" is so thoughtful and affirming and yet so edgy. The guy has fantastic emotional intelligence, walking a tightrope of pushing his kids really hard while still supporting them. (Sure, he sometimes falls off that tightrope, but if you don't walk it, you don't get to the other side.) The themes this year are building trust in each other and playing comfortably individually. He's using the uncertainty of the season's outcome--as opposed to last year where there was one specific goal--as the problem to be solved by team trust and personal comfort. (Even in last night's presser, he accounted for Kia's brilliance by the fact that she was finally comfortable with herself.) So, while he's pushing them very, very hard, he's also offering the emotionally supportive strategies and goals of trust and comfort.

There was just a quick shot of AZ with the bunch listening to Geno in practice and you couldn't help but think what a fantastic opportunity this is for someone so talented and yet so previously poorly coached to get this "orientation" year, so that when she comes in next year there are no emotional surprises (well, fewer emotional surprises, 'cause she'll feel his wrath when she's actually playing, but at least she knows that ahead of time).

Thank you for posting the Geno show. We out of state folks miss these SNY gems, that ESPN replaces with their own generic half time side pieces. Geno is both a genius motivator as well as a diplomatic advocate for women's college basketball. He is without peer and we are lucky to be among his fans. The unknowns and surprises this young team display are a consistent source of exciting entertainment UCONN fans haven't witnessed in years.
