I'm wondering if it was because on some of the games the pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows were with the game itself.

It was due to copyright issues, SNY owns and controls every program that they broadcast. So that includes pre-game, halftime, post game shows, Geno's shows, the Undefeated special, etc.
