... when we used to play teams from Uzbekistan and Outer Mesopotamia for our two preseason warmups? Whatever happened to that colorful tradition?

Great question, Wonk.

I checked from the 2000 season on.

2000-01 Sweden (national team?)
2001-02 Houston Jaguars and Gustino Powerbasket
2002-03 Houston Jaguars and Melbourne Tigers
2003-04 Team Concept and NWBL All-Stars
2004-05 EA SPORTS and Houston Jaguars
2005-06 SIMON FRASER and Houston Jaguars
2006-07 Team Concept and Houston Jaguars
2007-08 U.S. National Team and Southern Connecticut State
2008-09 Stonehill and Team SRP
2009-10 College of Saint Rose and Vanguard
2010-11 Franklin Pierce and Indiana University (Pa.)
2011-12 Assumption and Pace

And this year it's a rematch with IU (Pa.) and Holy Mary on Wednesday.

Houston was a favorite of Geno.

-Both teams adamantly refused to schedule us after Asjha Jones' 21st birthday; they seemed fixated with Asjha minor for some reason.

I trust everyone knows the NCAA prohibited the practice of the former college player barnstorming teams. I never did understand why.

I think the change was due to what was happening on the men's side. The year prior to Rudy Gay arriving on campus the UConn men played a team called the beltway ballers that was connected to Rudy Gay's AAU team. Controversy followed and the rules where changed.

Here is an article from Andy Katz writen at the time.

Sorry you had to dredge up that one-sided article. The very idea that certain coaches only do it to "cheat" while others have "long-term relationships" is just so pathetic it wasn't worth the bandwidth.
