Remaining unbeaten teams

K-State and Drake lost.

16 teams remain.

if anyone follows the reddit cbb "college basketball imperialism" map the big east is crushing right now.

from the perspective of this map, we want SJU to remain undefeated until conference play, so we have the opportunity to take their land later on.

I stumbled across this seconds before you posted. How exactly does this work?

every team is assigned the land (by county) closest to their campus at the start of the season. when you beat another team, you get their land.

it behooves the big east to have as much land as possible entering conference play. one slip-up out-of-conference (e.g. k state losing to butler) and you never have a chance to get your land back.

ultimately meaningless, but kinda fun to check in on as the season progresses!

Could UConn beat the record they set in 1998-99 when they started the season with 19 straight wins? That would be very tough BUT they are off to the best start since 2013-14 when they also started 9-0. We all know what happened in those other two seasons.

They are close to surpassing the 11-0 start from the 2008-09 FF team (who won 24 of their first 25) and if they were to win 3 more, I think that would be their fourth-best start ever. (1994-95 started 15-0)

Second best? The 15-0 start to the 94-95 season.

This team is matching some of the all-time best teams' early success, that's for sure.

Undefeated to start the season
1998-99 = 19-0 *championship
1994-95 = 15-0 *elite 8
2008-09 = 11-0 *final four
2005-06 = 11-0 *elite 8
2010-11 = 10-0 *championship
2013-14 = 9-0 *championship
2022-23 = 9-0 * ??

03-04 got crushed in their 4th game but bounced back nicely as we all know.

But if history has anythng to say, we are looking, at the very least, at an elite 8 team. At least. Good chance even Final four.

Looking at the schedule, they have a pretty good shot at reaching 14-0, in my opinion. After that, they hit a block of four losable games. If they hit 18-0, it would be reasonable to call this team unstoppable. (Until, of course, they are eventually stopped. Doomed.)

I believe Emeka Okafor was ailing for that game. The same two teams met up in the championship when he wasn’t, with a much more positive outcome.

updated unbeatens map. with the johnnies losing, uconn now controls the entirety of the new york city metro area.

old pal kevin willard is now the only thing between us and complete dominion over the bo-wash megalopolis.

Apologies for dooming us, but they will certainly lose before we do

UVA plays James Madison and Houston 12/17, but UVA losing may not help much because:

Purdue plays Hofstra....Purdue isn't losing any time soon
