Interesting thing with the QBs. Look at the final four teams in CFB. None of them have a QB that stands out as a great passer. None of them look like sure fire NFL stars.

What you see is leadership, game management and the ability to make a play when needed. Coaches are finding ways to win without a gunslinger. Not seeing Leinart vs Young type performances.

That’s probably the best we can hope for, a guy who doesn’t to anything great, but know how to lead a team and doesn’t make costly mistakes. Like JF did this year.
Pretty interesting observation. Im not sure though if it is just a bad cycle. Ewers (who I think it is nothing special to your point) is effectively getting booted for Manning.

I agree wholeheartedly with almost everything you said. The exception is that while OL is very important and should be priority #2, the #1 priority has to be QB. Evers simply has not shown that he’s good enough and bad QB play can kill a team. It’s incredible to me how horrible UConn’s quarterbacks have been for the majority of the last two decades. Even when we won the Big East and went to the Fiesta Bowl, our quarterback was Zach Frazier, who- although he presided over a lot of wins- was an awful passer to put it mildly.

Any inside on if we are okay going with an untested/freshman kicker next year? Freeman was great this year, I'd hate to see a measurable drop-off there.

Unless you've heard otherwise it seems we won't have to worry about kicker for 2025

I'm pretty sure he walked on senior night.

Yeah we don't make a bowl with Evers. I'm all hoping for progression but I hope the NIL folks realize the best man plays
IMO, the UAB game was the evidence we needed to shut up every last evers fan hiding under a rock. there was no way you could look at the two QB performances against the same defense, and say that evers deserved to ever start again over Joe Fagnano.

Unless they see some serious serious improvement in accuracy and progression reading this april, I say cut your losses and let evers go in the spring. Welliver go get it.

Good lord, the takes here. A bagman told Mora who to play. And now we cut a kid at a position we’ve almost never had skill or depth at. Let’s take advice from jets fans b/c no one knows more about building programs or top qb play than them.

I image that before last year no one had a clue how well Joe would play.
Joe was competent. I think that was the expectation when he got here. Wasn’t able to show much in 2023 played less than 2 full games. Showed well in 2024 with Sammis and Robbins > Charlton. Maybe better than competent. We Huskies fans have very little competent QB play to compare Joe to. Starting to get anxious about QB for 2025.

If a poster thinks Evers has hit his ceiling and can't improve after this year, then you are entitled to your opinion. If he doesn't work at it, then you are right. Otherwise, I would recommend holding judgement until August or even later because (a) he can improve his footwork (b) he can learn the offense better (c) he can learn to read defenses better and (d) he can be healthy to start the season and not have broken toes and concussions.

The pining for Welliver is understood as the most popular player on a football team is the backup. The above sans the injury applies to him as well. If a Fagnano type does come through the door, he still has to learn the offense and develop chemistry with the rest of the offense. Lots of catching up there.

Finally, let's see who the new passing coordinator/QB coach is to get the full picture.

Was there an announcement of a new OC/ QB coach that I missed? I gotta start paying more attention.

I trust Mora to get this right. I thought Nick could be the guy for most of the Duke game but he never progressed. I think he should be in the mix but he needs to be better to start. I mean that one pass he made in the Fenway Bowl was brutal, square 1 stuff.

Doesn’t appear the current and incoming transfer portal WR are that concerned.
That is my raison d'etre. Why would they come if they didn't feel great about who is going to be "slingin' it around"? Anxious in this case might be 3 parts excitement and 1 part concern.

For a guy who posts on here often with strong opinions, you sure don't keep up with what's going on with the team.

The QB coach left for Tulsa to be their OC. Our OC was and is Sammis. The new qb coach has not been named.

Thx. Color me confused in CT.

But strong opinions?? More like profound statements of the obvious.

Have not posted much lately btw. Ski season.

One last portal need I think is a QB coach. We looked a little better at that position with a real one in place this now past season
