Reibe in the portal

The one that stands out to me was the bear hug he gave Cadeau on the sideline when Cadeau was basically trapped. It looked like he had no interest in moving his feet to force the trap, he just went ahead and grabbed him - was one of the weirdest fouls I've ever seen.
Can't remember the players involved but against Illinois in the first half they had a ballhandler dead to rights against the sideline with nowhere to go and he just extends his arms and pushed him out of bounds, then in the 2nd half on a screen again extends his arms and just blows up the defender. For a high level power conference big it was embarrassing and damn near looked like he was trying to foul on purpose. If he played like that in the beginning of the season when Reed was hurt they never would have survived that non conf schedule.

Hurley is always talking about other coaches tampering. Wouldn't doubt there was an opposing coach in his ear about playing time.

What's also strange about the minutes thing is that he often came close to fouling out in 10 minutes.

Minutes should be the least of his concerns at this stage in his development.
Reibe should have understood we need to bring in another big as he was never going to play a whole game without fouling out.

.-.
This is also a surprising to me. He knew he was playing behind a senior starter. He's the only legit C on the roster and primed for bigger minutes next season possibly starting. I am very disappointed in this one but I wish him the best. He flashed some really nice offensive moves as a freshman and I think he is going to be a nice offensive center for somebody.
It might not have been about the minutes but instead about what role Danny wanted him to play.

Multi year contract is about the only answer. I've always felt as though, if a school commits to a kid and a kid commits to a school the kid should be guaranteed a four year education/degree, even if he doesn't work out. I don't even know how they're gonna calculate graduation rate from now on.
Agreed. Kids should be allowed one transfer for however long they play in college. If the coach leaves, and he player has already transferred once, he’d be allowed to transfer again. There needs to be a NIL salary cap and it has to enforced by some sort of compliance panel. Any school violating this policy, would be suspended from NCAA tourney play for 2 years.

Regarding the free eduction deal, let’s not pretend the players are student athletes with the exception of few. That ended with NIL and now allowing professional G leaguers and Europeans to play at the college level.

Basically, the "executive order", but something that is actually legally enforceable.

Which he signed up for. Until he didn’t like it. Honestly don’t know how he felt about his teammates or they about him, but I know I really don’t need to think about him. Next guys up.

I’m not 100% sure on this so don’t quote me, but I heard his decision to transfer came less than an hour after his conversation with Hurley

Not sure where you got that, but my guess is that it was very mutual that he was went on his way after that March. Tea leaves would be that between his group whining about minutes and his lackluster disengaged finish, he wasn't an effen Husky after all. They don't wilt like that. That was a day or two after he stated they were thinking about upgrading talent in some places, rather than hold on. Sounds like a direct shot at this point. That certainly isn't directed at any of the Fab 5 (Hurley loves), Silas or Mullins.

The Solo & Stew announcement taking a little longer than I thought. Not sure if they're waiting on Mullins to make up his mind first or not.

.-.
He also was fouling at such a high rate, he could not stay on the floor. Was it the system, lack of caring, or inability to process the game flow?
Who knows? On the multiple choice question for an exam, maybe all of the above, but certainly not , none of the above."

The dropoff was kind of baffling since he performed earlier at a high level. Without a nagging injury, it's something hard to wrap around. Maybe it was hard for him to play defense with his feet? Does take skill.

I hope he realizes he is not the 2nd coming of Cooper Flagg.
Maybe the second coming of a slimmer Eric Cobb.

Interestingly , even eons ago , when we had players like Budzinsky and Koski, they gave one thousand per cent and were not limited by lack of effort or enthusiasm and played hard every game. Clearly Reibe has a lot more talent.

Feels like we’ve lost the plot here

Reibe is a really talented player. He started several games while Tarris was hurt and played a major part in big games against Arizona, Illinois, and Kansas. Led the team in scoring twice

He either fell off then checked out, or checked out then fell off

If he fell off first…well, he’s a freshman center. Happens. If he doesn’t want to be here after a rough stretch, I don’t want him here. Best of luck

If he checked out first….I don’t want him here. Best of luck

Doesn’t mean he’s not a good player. He’s a freshman, he has time to improve his strength and rebounding. He doesn’t want to do it here, fine. Best of luck

I don’t care one way or the other. We don’t know what he originally signed up for or what was said in the recent post game conversation. We better find a next guy up at center and he best be a different maker. We’re UConn for God sake.

Hurley probably mentioned he was planning on bringing in bigs to compete and offered so much
NIL. Reibe made a smart decision. Enter portal and see what happens. There is an excellent chance he will get significantly more money and a guarantee on playing time. This portal is a bonanza for kids who are borderline NBA. Reibe is one of those. If he plays his cards right, he may end his college career without ever needing the education he never got because he made ten million playing ball and is set for
Life.

But where’s the heart?

Dauster said Hurley wanted him back

Not sure if you’re subscribed to Storrs Central, but there’s been a few updates over there. Lot of things are happening behind the scenes and it sounds like we’re going to start to hear things this week, just give it some time

He’s hard to assess because he’s clearly talented and has a lot of potential, but plays nothing like a traditional big as he’s not geared towards rim protection or rebounding. He might unironically do better in Pope’s system as an unconventional 4, though anybody biting at Pope is fishy since nobody else does.

I’m guessing he just wanted much more playing time than what Hurley envisioned. It is what it is but can’t say I blame the coach.

One of these guys is local to Reibe and said he heard by Dec there were rumblings Reibe wasn’t working out at UConn.
