Reibe appreciation thread

remember this vid? The kid is true to his words and don’t know his rapid development and maturity is due to his work ethics and/or bigs coaching staff. But one thing is for sure, we got ourselves a darn good Husky!

If Reibe wasn't ready we would have 2, possibly 3 losses right now and Eric was great against Arizona offensively, a game we should've won.

He has really surprised me with how good he's been and he seems to be improving at the things he wasn't so good at in each game. That's the sign of a great player.

He surprised lots of people including Hurley. I don’t think in his wildest dreams, Reibe would matched up with bigs on zona and Kansas teams and held his end, played 30+ mins without fouling out and excelled at offense.

Really looking forward to seeing Eric vs Florida's Bigs.. Tarris should be able to give us minutes as well that game. MSG and the National Champs. Bring it on.

I thought he looked badly over matched in the first game where he played many minutes. He has come along much better than i thought he would. In another year with some weight training and maturity he can be An absolute beast. I think more Kalkbrenner than Clingon but still a beast.

His rebounding has progressed tremendously in just 2 weeks. As soon as he learns how to really leverage his size he's going to be an All American

I keep hearing Kalk as a comparison but I dont see it. Kalk was more of a lob threat. Reibe can be an actual guy you dump the ball down to and let him dominate. Kalk always looked goofy in the post.

Reibe should get the backup 4 as well as the 5 where we play big for 5-6 minutes
It would be a nice option to have in the bag in case of certain scenarios in tournament. Especially if they can stay out of foul trouble. But otherwise. that backup 4 job might be much of what Stewart is left with once Mullins is fully integrated.

I totally agree. Reibe looks to be more skilled offensively. Hopefully he can match Kalk's positioning and timing on D.

He's nothing like Kalkbrenner. Kalk is like a poor man's Clingan, awesome defender limited offensively. They're both larger human beings than Reibe.

Always respected Kalk despite him never having the best games against us. Reminded me of a Karaban type, wasn’t selfish and always a team player.

Stewart has been dissapointing
I think reibe is a top 6 player on the team
and has 4 man skill

Speaking of the lob threat I hope we see it again, its been a while. Against Kansas, 4 of Bidunga's 12 came when Dwayne was in and one of them was a lob. They tried it a couple of more times in the second half with no success. Reibe's defense was excellent in the second half and he played the entire second half with no or 1 fouls

Reibe has been great so this is not a knock on him, but I have no idea what people have been watching wanting to see him play the 4. The defense is already playing 10 feet off him at the 5 and packing the paint, putting him at the 4 would be a disaster offensively with even less room to operate on offense

I agree. He is agile, has good footwork and has shown he will shoot but im sure he's a 5.
We are high on E and I think people are feeling the elephant in the room "what do we do when Reed comes back?'....but ya know, I actually miss the double bigs debate. It was my 2nd favorite BY civil war aside from "Give Diggins some run!'

It has nothing to do with the player. Some folks just long for the basketball of 3+ decades past. As good as Reibe has been, the perimeter skills have clearly not been (yet) what a lot of folks expected as a recruit. He’d bee a complete disaster at the four right now.

I don't think we can say that with any confidence. Hurley has publicly said before he unleashes Reibe from the perimeter he wants him to master the other skills of the trade(setting screens, establishing inside position, rebounding, defending the rim). Reibe is 2-5 from three this year. The skillet is there. Just no the attempts or freedom yet.

You must have missed the part where I said “yet”. And Hurley and other coaches agree based on how he’s being deployed and how other coaches are defending him. But it doesn’t matter because again, the suggestion of double bigs has nothing to do with the specific player. There’s just a faction that is obsessed with it.

Is it me, or even in their limited time does it seem like he and Mullins have developed a little chemistry playing together?

Just enjoying watching the kid's development. Enjoying while I can. One of best and worst things about college basketball is how quickly a kid's college career goes by. We get to see them develop, leave and repeat with some new kids.

Eric is in the perfect Program to develop and grow his unique skillset. Banging with Koroma/Euros and Reed in practice and learning from Reed about low post efficiency/D/Boards is invaluable. His passing/BBIQ/3 pt efficiency come naturally to him. He's a gamer/winner and will be a mismatch nightmare by his second year with his inside/out proficiency.

I think Danny is blown away by his maturity and talent and is still trying to figure out how to maximize his impact on this year's team. Florida game will be a great test for him in the minutes he gets.

Some had legit concerns about his size and being too skinny this season. As you can see he bulked up and got stronger in the short time he’s been with us. Strength, nutrition and conditioning is solid.

Both are NBA starters!
