Best thing that came out of last game. He’s a powerful 6-9 260 and difficult to stop. That forces defense in and creates shooting space and driving lanes. He can put up 16-18 points a game easy
His defense and rebounding looked great 2
He’s not as polished as Adama but he’s real good and highly important to the team

I agree. He is a physical specimen. I think he can be terrific given some polishing - just as IA can be. JRoss has always looked interesting to me. Not shocked. Just a fans opinion… if we don’t get one this year (we truly may have a shot) - next year’s team could be very interesting.

Often, I think back when KO was to be replaced (marriage struggles) - and I remember the fodder here about the next coach to be. The pros/cons of Dan Hurley - and others. I really thought Dan Hurley with his connections and associations was interesting - so I thought it might be the best choice. He reminded me of JC and his passion for the game. What has surfaced (in addition to this) - is this offense mastermind and psychological player management - which is quite impressive. Mentally he seems very grounded in his life. He pursues things with passion and intensity that anyone can see. Setting the bar for his career early? Interesting. Ignoring the lights and fame for personal and localized joy. Interesting. We are lucky to have such a terrific captain steering to ship. Enjoy the ride - apparently - it ain’t over. Dan Hurley (in JC fashion) gave us a Babe Ruth - “you better get us now”. That resonated with me. JC said in 99’ something to the effect: “We’re really good” after punching Stanford in the throat in Palo Alto. Again, that stuck out to me. Bilas is beginning to realize something unique is happening in Storrs. Yes, it is. The older fans will remember some of this stuff. The younger ones not so much. Don’t stress - this man knows what he is doing. Even the coaches and help he has obtained at times is interesting. It’s great to be a huskies fan! Enjoy the ride!

Tarris has 2 years to develop in Storrs. Even with no really steep developmental curves, slow, steady growth will end up with a helluva Hoopster. Does he have more or less NBA potential than Adama? I'm thinking a good bit more.

I think the best part of Tarris’ stat line was 5-7 FGs. You can see the tools and physical makeup are all there. He has all the building blocks to be a really special player. But we know it’s the efficiency Danny is challenging him on. If he can continue to replicate that type of performance game to game, we may have the most efficient center combo in college.

We don’t need either him or Samson to drop 50 a game a la Kalk - but if Tarris can keep the game simplified and make the smart play each time, and if Samson can cut down the fouls and up the rebounding a bit… we have a heck of a 1-2 punch at the 5 once again, regardless of who’s starting.

I need to say sorry to Reed, Jr. In the SH post game thread, I was overly critical of him, and I was objectively wrong. I watched the game again last night. The first two personal foul calls were ticky-tacky calls. He was active, and overall being a presence. I am going to blame the delicious tequila I was drinking. My bad.

Hoss is incredibly promising. What especially has me excited with him is that some of the more negative things we see with him (slow start, some defensive positioning things) are very very fixable and are minor things. Love Samson but I think that it won’t be long before TR is starting and minutes might be more like ~25 Tarris 15 Samson.

Very simply put, I repeated about 3-4 times during the Sacred Heart game, "I expect big production from Tarris Reed Jr.".

Even before the exhibition against Rhode Island, it was during the spring when Hurley was recruiting him, I saw his highlights and expected him to be the starter at the 5.

If our Centers can just match other teams center production I'd sign up for that. Our other 9 or so guys are so much better as a group than any team in the Big East we would be completely fine. Unlike last year this team will have a few games where we will need to out shoot/ outscore opponents to win.

i dont care who starts but i wouldnt be surprised if it ends up being a 15/25mpg split between samson and reed.

maybe it makes sense for samson to start so if he picks up 2 quick fouls then reed comes in to play the rest of the half knowing he cant be too aggressive on D. whereas if reed started and picked up 2 quick fouls, we're kinda doomed because samson cant help but foul, and then we'd have both bigs in foul trouble. idk.

Simplify simplify simplify is the name of the game for Tarris. The issues at UM were all when he tried to do too much.

He moves like a guard or some kind of ballerina (ballerino?) at 6'10 260. Great balance, length, incredible power in his upper and lower body. Seems to have touch at the rim when he doesn't take bad shots.

Make it simple. Battle for position and go straight up with both hands. Use a pump fake or up and under. Get violent hunting for boards. Move the ball when the post up isn't there. Rim run hard.

No need to dance with the ball, dribble 5x or try to make hero passes. He can be our next Sanogo if he keeps it simple.

And there's simply no way he doesn't become a + defender undet Hurley. Too many tools with this level of coaching to fail.

There are a lot things or players that interest me about this UConn team, but like I said in my post above I expect big things from this guy, Tarris.

Hurley and this coaching staff are a 10 on the scale of 1-10 (10 being great) while Juwan Howard was, well, a -3.

I remember what I saw and heard on a YouTube video of Bill Parcells in mic'd up compilation. In one of the practices, Bill Parcells stated to a a Dallas player that he knew he could play at a high level and the player replied by expressing some doubts about whether he could. Bill Parcells said "I am going to make sure you don't fail.". I am sure the player really liked that and I am certain Hurley and his staff operate the same way with a lot of the players.

He had a couple total brain farts on D where he was caught ball watching or slow getting over to help but I thought by and large was pretty good on that end of the court. Agreed though, I expect significant improvements on D as Hurley continues to develop him and the Juwan Howard coaching fades away.

He looked hesitant at times on both ends. Those hesitancies will be gone and the behaviors will be second nature in January.

He got a dunk and drew 2 fouls that prevented another 2 dunks by doing the Sanogo-style duck in seal as part of our scheme. Karaban is an excellent entry passer. It looked pretty foolproof.

He's going to be very effective. The only question is if Samson can be equally effective with the things he does, otherwise Reed is going to take his job.

His transition block was also a ridiculous highlight play. Reached across his momentum to the side in an instant.

The Husky Review on StorrsCentral has a full highlight video with his plays.

He looked good and should probably be the starter, but I still want to see him play against not Sacred Heart and not URI before really feeling comfortable. He definitely is a Hoss though.

He played at UM where he still did well being part of that awful program

He showed a nice touch on his FT's. It had me wondering why he doesn't look to take more short jumpers.

Danny is pushing Hoss hard. Talent is not the issue. Just gotta connect the BBIQ with his natural skills.By BE season-TR should be kicking some butt.
