Does anyone else feel like UConn has a slight disadvantage to other hockey east schools due to out lacking campus facilities. When watching games at schools such as UNH, BU and even Lowell you see that our guys don't have half the amenities of the other schools. Our team does preform well but doesn't anyone else feel like having a campus arena where the players don't stretch in the lobby might attract even better talent?

You are 100% correct - Cav has made this abundantly clear in his limited comments on the topic.

The facilities will be coming as soon as UConn raises the money. The baseball, softball, and soccer facilities are next on the docket. It's gonna take time, but it will eventually get done. The need to have collection buckets at all the sporting events for UConn fans to donate.

With the XL Center slated to go up for sale by 6/2019 and UConn's use agreement expiring soon "eventually" is going to turn into "soon" very quick.

It seems AD Dave understands the pressing timeline based on the RFP that went out real quick when the XL Center sale/shutdown news came out. He's well aware that UConn's status in HE is at risk if XL closes and UConn doesn't have shovels in the ground or a funded plan for an on-campus facility.

Not to mention how enormous of a recruiting disadvantage it would be if UConn had to recruit players to play in Freitas.

I would call it more than a slight disadvantage. Not having modern facilities on the campus can be a drawback to both recruiting and player development.

Agree whole heartedly...

On campus hockey rink would be great but money from the state is drying up. The UCONN budget is getting cut at the state level and they the politicians can't be happy if money is diverted from academics to sports facilities.

That may be, but if XL closes and UConn tries to tell HE they're going to permanently play in Freitas long term, the league very likely will have serious discussions about booting UConn from the league. Not to mention the program's recruiting will take a SEVERE blow and they will not be nearly as competitive as they currently are.

Reconfirming prior beliefs a new campus arena will depend on fundraising!
