Recently Watched Movies 2024

I'd like to see both of those movies.

I watched Emilia Perez because I was out of the country and Netflix was the only available streaming service. The acting by the lead (Gascon) and Saldana was very good (I'm not sure why Gomez got a GG nom -- she was fine but the role gave her little to work with), but the story was pretty meh. I'm not talking about the subject matter (a Mexican cartel leader getting a sex change); I just thought that, even accepting the premise, some of the plot turns and character developments were quite silly.
I haven’t seen Emilia Perez, but from what I’ve heard I am not sure I will. I heard Saldana was great. But, there seems to be a lot of outrage at the awards it received last night. This hasn’t been an overly impressive year for films, so a lot of the Oscar’s awards seem pretty wide open. Definitely want to see Anora as well as I’m Still Here though.

I didn't watch it, but "Red One" is available on Amazon Prime already. I'm almost curious to see if it is as bad as all the reviews say it is.
We saw it in the theater. Exactly what you think it is. It does that as well as you might expect. I thought it was fun

Carry On (2024) - Taron Egerton (played Elton John in "Rocket Man") is a likeable bloke working within the security force of LAX. He is an underachiever with a girlfriend. All his coworkers like him. He gets his first crack at sitting at the luggage x ray machine and BOOM, he suddenly is a pawn in Jason Bateman's plan to smuggle a nerve agent on a plane. Bateman players a terrorist-for-hire. Here, he is Marty Byrde with an edge.

For me, it dragged while Bateman dictated to action through the ear piece. But once Edgerton said "**** this.", it gets exciting. Cool ending.

Yes, some belief suspension.
Plot holes you could drive an aircraft carrier through.

Just saw A Complete Unknown in theaters. Really good, as with most well done biopics, the performance is better than the movie as a whole, but the movie itself was very good itself. It wasn’t as much as a tribute to the life as other music biopics have been, it was a good story about Dylan’s rise.

But, Chalamet put in an amazing performance, his portrayal was terrific. Deserves best actor at the Oscar’s, but I haven’t seen The Brutalist yet, and Brody won Best Actor at the GG’s.
Some people who have known Bob were blown away. He clearly studied a lot of mannerisms and affectations to really nail the role. Haven’t seen it yet but that’s what I read from some people who saw it and are very familiar with Bob.

Never seen Timothy Chalamet act but he's dating arguably the worst Kardashian experiment, he loses major points for that.

Bizarre statement. Watch a movie of his. Beautiful Boy he’s great, A Complete Unkown obviously, Bones and All is good but a tough watch.
He's not my favorite, but he's been killing it for years. Never saw it but Call Me By Your Name was critically acclaimed. Little Women, the Dune movies, and a bunch more stuff. He's got a ton of work under his belt for a guy in his 20s.

I really like him, he also seems like a great guy, lot of fun. His interview with Narduar was really cool. I like this next generation crop of actors.

He was also really good in Wonka. I think he's decent in Dune. The fun thing he did this fall was be the celebrity game picker on ESPN Gameday. Skinny actor from NYC, you think he doesn't know football but he blew everyone away.

I admit, I long thought he was some pretentious snowflake with that spelling of his first name. But recently heard an interview where he insisted people call him whatever they want and his parents were idiots for giving him that spelling. He was engaging and self-effacing in that interview. So while I still don't really want to see him in action roles due to his size, at least I no longer think he's a complete tool.

Bizarre statement? You don't think his girlfriend is arguably the worst Kardashian science experiment?

I don't get it. Zendaya? They're engaged now and she has no connection to the Kardashians as far as I know. Her last name is Coleman and she's from Oakland.

That’s Tom Holland LOL
Ahh yes, I see my error. Timothee is with Kylie Jenner. She's technically not a Kardashian, but how is she a science experiment? I'm not really a fan of any of them.

Because it isn’t relevant to Chalamet’s acting chops or this thread in general lol
I said I haven't seen his acting, I only know he's dating arguably the worst Kardashian science experiment. You love his acting, you think his interviews are really cool, and you think he's a great guy. I'm happy for you.

Zendaya certainly isn't a science experiment. She's a natural beauty and I think she's great on Euphoria. She doesn't date Timothy Chalamet though.

Again, it’s a thread about movies, not grievances of an actor’s significant other.

Yep. The guy…In the movie. But yap about Kylie Jenner, good contribution!
Yes, the guy in the movie is dating arguably the worst Kardashian experiment. You think he's cool and fun, I think it's weird he dates that thing.

According to you it's a thread about movies and we're supposed to keep it about movies and his acting chops.
