He says a lot of things that don't catch on. So do a lot of other announcers / commentators. It really seems like most of them just throw a bunch of crap at the wall and see what sticks. And half the stuff that sticks doesn't make sense anyway and I think it only sticks because they won't stop saying it, so it creates the illusion of being clever / original / worth wasting oxygen that could be used for any number of better reasons. One that comes to my mind right now is the guy who would not shut up about Stanley Robinson's "broken play athleticism" a few years back. I can't remember who it was, but I wanted to punch him in the face every time he said it.

I agree that the nickname is pretty lame but I wouldn't get too mad at Rece, he's pretty much the least offensive person employed by ESPN, seems like a genuinely nice guy.

Rece knows his stuff, and the CONN doesn't bug me, specially when we're winnin'.

His TV persona definitely shows that as well. I like him a lot regardless of his phrases that don't catch on. The CONN doesn't bother me though.

Exactly. A Con isn't exactly a good thing. It isn't the biggest deal in the world but I find it annoying.

Theres a great guy who works at ESPN that has close ties with the Rowe family and he always calls them THE CONN. Thats where it comes from.
