If you check out the preview for our game tonight, you'll get Rebecca studying tape of UCONN vs. ND and Maryland vs. ND. She demonstrates how important the high post is to ND's game, and shows that UCONN guarded it relgiously, whereas MD didn't. WHY can't we get lots of analysis like this of games, esp. before they are played. It is so interesting, and sets up the mind for more sophisticated watching! I wish we could have a lesson like this before every game we watch.

Thanks for the link ... took a look at a number of Rebecca's videos --- nice collection of solid, informative and personable reporting...and she could shoot the three.

Lobo and Lawson should be the lead in all women's basketball broadcasts. Both very knowledgeable and appealing. They both go out of their way to reduce bias and provide balance.

When you watch the last play in the ND-MD game that Rebecca analyzes you can understand why ND was able to put up 80 points on MD. Not only does the MD defender allow Achonwa to catch the ball quite easily at the elbow, but on the hand-off Novasel's defender goes as far underneath the screen as one can go (behind Achonwa and the MD player guarding Achonwa). Maybe the MD defender was expecting a switch; regardless, it doesn't get much worse than that. UConn may not win tonight, but there's little chance it'll play defense like that.

I'm reminded of when UConn played Duke at Cameron 2 years ago and with only a few minutes left in the game and UConn up comfortably by about 30, Geno pulled Tiffany from the game and ripped in to her on the sidelines. Most everyone wondered what Tiff had done to deserve Geno's wrath in a 30-point blow-out. The game replay showed that Tiffany had gone underneath a screen set for Jasmine Thomas who then made a 3-pointer. Defense is played differently at UConn.

So, UCONNCAT, what will you be watching for tonight...more high post guarding? What else ya got?
