Realistic Expectations This Season

What is everyone's prediction for this upcoming season? Looking through their roster, this has to be the best assembly of talent on the men's side since 2014. As a recreational bettor, 80/1 to win it all seems...off, but curious to hear what other people think.

Making it back to the NCAAs has to be the bare minimum realistic expectation; I'd like to see us make it to the second weekend just to have the experience to build on for 2021-22.

I don't think it is realistic to expect us to go from a multi-year absence to running the table.

I think a sweet 16 appearance is reasonably achievable. I don't think we can win it all. Sniff the elite 8 with the right matchups? Maybe. Less than round of 32 would be a huge disappointment.

Who is scary in college basketball this season? I don't know if it's realistic or not, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see this team make a deep run.

I just threw down at 70-1 for us to win it all. Also got Creighton at 45-1 and Nova and 12-1. I'm strictly rooting for the BE this year. The realist in me sees Sweet 16/Elite 8 though.

Lots of question marks, I’d love it to be top 5 in the Big East and a tournament bid. We could maybe get 1-2 wins in the tournament, but I’m hoping this team surprises me. I just don’t know if our guards have the defense that we’re losing.
Lots of potential and if we put it all together we’re gonna be dangerous.
Also lots of depth, need guys to buy in and contribute on both ends.

I agree with this take. I would’ve felt really great about this team if they had a normal offseason together (especially that planned Italy trip...that kind of early bonding/playing together could’ve created a special atmosphere for the players). As it is, the line between good and great will be determined by how quickly Jackson and Sanogo can consistently make an impact...assuming our veterans (old and new) make the leap we expect. Very excited to watch this team play!

Are we predicting W/L in this thread too? With no intent to detail the thread I’ll go with 20-7 if it’s a 27-game regular season. Maybe 2-3 wins in the BET and 2 wins in the NCAAs on top of that.

What's missing on this team, relative to the post-season, is anybody who has been there before. But I'm sold on the talent-level. It's a season that's likely to end with a tough loss in the Sweet 16 or maybe even the Elite 8. It will sow the seeds of hope for 21-22.

Realistically I'd be satisfied with us winning enough games in the nbe to get us an at large bid. I had legitimate tournament aspirations for last years team which were crushed by the St Joe's game.

For me as a fan, the minimum goal is ncaa tourney, stretch goal would be elite 8+. Sweet 16 seems like it could be within reach

This team was really close last year... 5 OT games, only won 1. Still went 19-12. Other close games: 3pt L to Indiana, 6pt L to Nova, 4pt L to Houston, 4Pt L to SMU. That’s 8 losses decided by 2 possessions or less.
