Just watched Boyle and Cochran's videos.

Boyle has the big - fluid arm.
Cochran has terrific footwork in the pocket, nice balance and polish.
Lagow seems to have leadership skills and from I have heard a - big arm....havent seen any video.

Looking forward to seeing what they all can do.

The excitement is steadily creeping back into UConn Football, and it's a beautiful thing! I can't wait for the Spring Game...

P seems to be following through on his promise of upgrading the talent. Now for the hard part, the wins.

Under Edsall you'd see the highlights of a kid like Casey Turner and think he will never see the field.

Here is hoping the offensive line improves and Whitmer bounces back strong.

I agree Dan. I've been pretty down the past two seasons due to the conference situation and the frustrating play on the field, but I'm starting to feel the juice again.

I'll be going to signing day and getting really excited to welcome these kids to UCONN COUNTRY!

Whitmer learned on the job. CC learned as a redshirt.

Lagow and Boyle will breath down their necks.

This never happened when Edsall ran the show.

Let's not jump the gun here. Lagows dad considered Boyle a fly in the ointment. Did not want his son and another QB in the same class. Unless he comes here with a statement.... we will know for sure on Wed.

I am of the opinion that Cochran is odd man out. Seems to me that they have effectively recruited over him as they say in basketball. He is behind Whitmer who has 2 more years of eligibility and started last year. He is being pushed by not 1 but 2 guys who would have to be considered more prototypical quarterbacks for they style we want to play. I've only seen Boyle and Cochran play 1 time each in high school and my view is Boyle is better, but I also concede that he had far superior talent around him. I totally discount the Spring game for Cochran since he was so clearly out of his league at that point, but almost any true freshman would have been in a similar situation. And I'm excited to watch Lagow. Texas football is way more sophisticated at the 5A level than anything in Connecticut so he may be the most polished of the 3.

Does the skill set of any of Lagow, Boyle or Casey trump a year in the system? Are they good enough to push Whitmer out of the starting spot? That's very difficult to do as a true frosh, and tough enough to do as a red shirt frosh. What does everyone think the 2 deep will be? I'm inclined to it will be Whitmer but I'd be happy to be wrong as that means that we'll be seeing a huge talent upgrade.

I think the 2-deep will be Whitmer with Cochran as the backup, but that doesn't equate to Cochran being the true #2. The other two will redshirt unless one or another turns out to be unbelievably good. True freshman starters are just so rare except in cases where there is an injury or some other disaster. I don't think we'll see one here.

What never happened? You never creamed about unproven players who haven't gotten near the field yet?

If Cochran never touches the field, he still may be coaching material for the future.

IMHO none of the incoming frosh are in line as #2, Whitmer, Cochran with CC as the guy we really haven't seen much of healthy and with a year in the system, and another Spring game. But maybe not a lot of space talent-wise between the 4. Different skill sets and level of experience. Is it possible the 3 backups could be the best passers (excluding SM)?

Shocking that Pal would get an anti-Edsall invective incorrect, but he must just be forgetting 2008 with Lorenzen, Frazer and Endres all on the roster... Or maybe those three didn't compete.

Too soon to great overly excited. Does seem - on paper - that some excitement is in order. Love the "getting" two QB's since only CW & CC are ahead on the depth chart. McCummings will not ever be the answer. Injuries and just not really "the real deal" could (and should have in bygone years) make a crowded position thin quite fast. Nothing is ever settled at this position until it gets fixed. Let's hope this is that point in time. For now, looks like a good haul.

What competition??? Endres beat Cincy and was poised for an upset over West Virginia (all #82 needed to do was catch a perfectly thrown pass at the five yard line with no one around him for a would-be 20-7 lead), after which he lost his poise. Following week, TL was back at the helm thereby completely negating any threat of a passing attack for the final three games (two of which featured anemic offense and resultant losses) as well as bowl win against ubiquitious opponent Buffalo (always there when you need a win) that was all Donald Brown minus the whooping 6 passes thrown.

So . . . no. There was no competition because otherwise Endres would have been the starter the rest of the season.

Remember all the crooning over Nebrich and Box? And I don't even think Lagow is coming any more.

Correct. It was Box as the incumbent, McCummings red shirting, and Nebrich coming in. And if what you say is true . . . No Lagow . . . now we're down to three QBs and the saga of UConn QBs continues.

Jimmy, where did you hear that from?
Yes, I'd be interested in that too. I have to think that this late most "major" schools have the quarterbacks lined up. I'm not sure he'll find a better situation among the schools that recently recruited him. Maybe. Btu per ESPN the only firm offers he had were UConn and North Texas. Some other interest guess.

I just did some "catch-up" reading on the Lagow vs. Boyle vs. thread. I think I know where Jimmy got that from. It sounds like Richard Lagow's father (if the poster is indeed his father) is hinting at Richard perhaps backing out. He pointed to the recruitment of Boyle as the reason. It's hard to tell what's what nowadays, so I guess I'll just wait until Wednesday to find out...

I have no doubt that it is Richard's dad posting here.

I read it as weighing his options... not "backing out". My gut tells me that his LOI will be the first one we receive. I'll be pissed if I'm wrong.

The real question is: can any of these guys play wideout?
