I recently retired and now have a lot of time on my hands - time to spend on the Boneyard. I started thinking about the top college basketball programs of today. Not just in terms of wining but also emphasizing much more subjective things like prestige, and trendiness with recruits. Here is what I came up with:
- Duke - Even after last season's debacle an offer from Duke still resonates with recruits.
- Kentucky - See Duke.
- Villanova - Historically would be behind UNC & Kansas but 2 recent national championships vault them to #3.
- UNC - Michael Jordan, history of success.
- Gonzaga - Few has made it a powerhouse and they now get 5-stars.
- Kansas - Slipping a bit...
- Virginia - Boring to watch but effective.
- Michigan - Juwan Howard has done a masterful job. Off to the NBA?
- Michigan State - Slipping?
- With a couple more good seasons UConn will be here
