It's the metric the author based the ranking on. If UConn beat up sisters of the poor all season it would be ranked higher but would not be a "better champion" in any material sense. If you used a different model, for example ranking of opponents in the tourney, the results would be different. That said, it's good to have it noted that we won twice in the past decade.

I saw one big mistake in the article. They list Louisville as a champion. Not according the NCAA, and it is their tournament.

also good to see Kemba and Shabazz on teams of the decade (1st and 3rd team respectively)

They make these lists every year. It's just repetitive off-season writing. Not worth the click.

Beat everybody out of conference throughout the entire season in 2010-11, and pretty much beat the top teams from the top conferences in the 2014 tournament.
Good enough for me.

Regarding 2011 “the rest of the season did happen”

Yeah like how we swept through Maui too. 2011 was one of the best years the Big east ever had. I agree that 7th is the worst they should be ranked

2014 is rightfully last. I still to this day do not understand how we pulled that out.

I’d take 2011 over some of those teams though.
Best player in the country at point guard, lockdown defender at 2 guard, and DeAndre became that third go to player. Having 2 guards who could always create and score at the end of shotclock situations was huge as was us being the best ft shooting team I've ever seen. If the game was close we were winning it.

Going into the year I thought that team was going to be really good and I thought they were a bit of a let down during the regular season but it all came together perfectly by tournament time. 2011, I honestly thought we were probably going to suck, everything about that was the most surprising season ever for me.

In 2011, other than maybe Butler, I was worried (in a normal sense) that we could lose.

In 2014, after the Nova game, I was not worried about a single game. That defense was really something else.

Oh no we had the two worst national championship teams over the past decade how will we ever recover

The only thing more embarrassing than that would be to have the three worst national championship teams of the last decade.

14 I can see being last but I would take the 11 team over 2010 Duke or 2017 UNC.
I think both teams beat 2010` Duke or at the very least give them a lot of problems because that backcourt wouldve had a difficult time dealing with the athleticism of both backcourts.

ranking the teams this way based on overall performance on the season I can see, but best runs 11 & 14 have to be at the top, specially 11 with 5 wins in 5 days to win the BE then the tourny. then in 14 they topped 3 #1 seeds to earn the title so they ran the gauntlet too. If you are ranking defensive play both those teams locked down everybody in the NCAA's

Pure fun and joy just to be included on that list, and twice!!!!!!! Unbelievable memories, I'm sure for all. Let's just hope we are on the list for the 2020's!!

No complaints really. They were both unusual teams. While 2011 team was strong all year, it wasn't until Lamb emerged that it went to the next level.

Well not really. In the beginning and the end. In the middle they were 8-8 in the Big East.

2011 is amazing really. Outside the BE regular season, the team was 23-0! Wins over #2 Mich St, 6 Kentucky, 12 Texas, Wichita St, Tenn, 17 Zona, 11 Kentucky, 6 SD St, 22 G'town, 3 Pitt, 14 LVille, 11 Cuse.

There is such a disparity between what happened inside the season and outside. I force myself to account for it, and I say it's the 4 times per game that Kemba drove to the basket and didn't get a foul call.

By the way, I checked the writers twitter just now, and he says as of an hour ago, 3/4 of the writers at SI were just fired by the head of the hedge fund that now owns SI. He was fired too.
