Taking it beyond Murphy

2304 yards passing - 21 TDs and 5 Ints.

We haven't been totally devoid of talented QB.

Here's the problem - everywhere else in the country these kids need to sit for a couple of years before they're ready to be an FBS starting QB. But for whatever reason, almost every QB at UConn decides to transfer after their freshman season before they even get a chance. Edsall and P - happened to both regimes. I really don't think we would have had the same level of issues at QB if our QB recruits stayed for 5.

Great post. Who knows why they won't stay.

More misses than hits at QB. Mike Box, Casey Turner, Billy Cundiff. We whiffed on too many QBs. Nebrich was a huge P blunder. He was clearly talented. He burns his redshirt, then proceeds to give him almost no playing time in favor of a less talented, upper classmen walk on. I thought it was part of the whole empty cupboard storyline. Should have developed him at all cost.

Im not so sure Mike Box was a miss. I have no idea what he's doing now, but i remember the lville game he started, and he looked pretty good, then threw a bad ball, then we never saw him again.

I really wanted to see him again.

Completed under 50% of his passes in D2. Not FCS D2. Thought he looked like a deer in headlights against Louisville.

Wasn't he like 4/15 for 20 yards against Louisville.

I disagree. There has been talent at QB. Here are the stats after each left UConn:

Billy Cundiff - Ashland University
2009: 65.2% completion, 2,653 yards, 24 TDs, 1 Int.
2008: 69.5% completion, 3,500 yards, 34 TDs, 7 Int

Mike Box - IUP
2013: 58.8% completion, 2078 yards, 17 TDs, 11 Int
2012: 52% completion, 1747 yards, 13 TDs, 4 Int

Mike Nebrich - Fordham
2014: 65.1% completion, 2304 yards, 21 TDs, 7 Int
2013: 73.5% completion, 4380 yards, 35 TDs, 7 Int

Casey Turner - backup at Western Carolina

When PP arrived, he had both Box and Nebrich and he pushed both out. Clearly, they could have been molded into serviceable QBs, but ..

By the way, Cundiff was a borderline draft able QB when he came out of Ashland.

Cody Endres who pushed himself out. He DID play. He showed some decent signs and his departure didn't help,

Seriously... Mike Box?

As we have found out this year, you need depth at QB. Box might have been a good 2nd or 3rd string QB.

Also, some schools do a great job of developing multiple QBs on their roster. For some reason, UConn has not.

Mike Box wasn't anywhere near an acceptable quarterback for a team in a BCS league. He wasn't even a good DII quarterback.

What are the odds that Tim Boyle joins this list in two years? Is he playing next week or is he confined in Diaco's secret doghouse?

You should add McCummings to this list, I actually think he may have been the most talented of this group after Nebrich. I think GDL screwed up McCummings throwing motion his freshman year, Scott threw his passes at ear level in high school and someone at UCONN wanted him to elevate his elbow, my guess is GDL. It totally effed him up.

Nebrich is the only who showed anything in terms of talent when he did play. Box wasnt good and the book on Cundiff was he couldn't learn the playbook here. Apparently the inside handoff was too much for him to process. Turner, back up at Western Carolina???? Enough said.

I do agree with your point about our inability to develop qbs. It is mind boggling. You see Mac qbs lighting it up every year. You could count the number of 2000 yd seasons by one of our qbs on one hand, with three of those by Orlovsky.

Let's not get carried away. He gained like 70 pounds. That's not on GDL.

It's simply mind boggling that we have produced solid O-Lines and RB's under Edsall and yet QB is still the position we are helpless in. Did we do something to Orlovsky after he left to cause some sort of Cubs/Red Sox curse to be placed on us at that position.

I'm positive Boyle will be added to this list when/if he transfers.

actually I do blame the old coaching staff for that.

So do I to an extent. But I give SM 90 pct of the blame.

What list? A list that would matter would be of quarterbacks who were good against high level competition. That list does not exist.

Nebrich is the closest to that... and he rolls up numbers against Georgetown and Lehigh.

Tim Boyle has been abysmal in his time at UConn. If he transfers to the Patriot League who cares?

Memphis' QB was abysmal last year, this year he is productive. Should Tulane give up on Tanner Lee, he has been awful but he has talent.

Boyle has barely played this year and he is not getting the practice reps. Coming in cold off the bench can't be easy. Back to back TD passes against Boise were dropped.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda...

They have done Boyle no favors this year or last with the way he's been handled. That being said he has been so far past awful you can't compare anyone to him.
