(I don't know my way around anymore.....this got posted in recruiting when I intended it here and I can't delete it from there! Sorry.....am trying again....now it is in 3 places...ah well)

I started this comment in the Jovana Popovic thread and then I wandered off to other things beyond the subject. And so, pardon me for putting it up as a thread starter. Thank you.

About Jovana Popovic: I haven't read through the whole thread (about her) to check but did someone raise the possibility that this probably means Jerzy Robinson is going somewhere else. Well, since there is also no confirmation of her visiting Storrs, is a probable another indicator, though not necessarily correct.

If all the video clips are real and some not AI-generated, then Jovana Popovic is indeed a great prospect and needed at PG after KK and Kayleigh move on but also significantly helping while they are still around. She shows superior offensive repertory but am not sure about defense, yet....she needs to strengthen a bit.

Will UConn fill the 15 scholarships again? If Jerzy Robinson is not coming and she probably would read this signing as a hint that UConn has given up on her.....(maybe, we don't know anything beyond the tea leaves and her not visiting is probably her own sign to UConn).....will UConn be able to persuade Sara Okeke to join? Hard to tell (she could go pro in Europe and get paid better than in WNBA). But at only what, 18?, she might consider it a challenge to go to an elite University program to refine her obvious skills while getting a degree, that is worth pursuing that sets her up for life.

If she knows Blanca, she might ask for inside information. If she signs, that's two more high-end front court players. What will happen to Ice and Ayanna? (They are part of a group who, together, has had unfortunate injury-riddled time at UConn: Paige, Azzi, Caroline.....and Jana, too).

Wellll, better just wait and see things develop as they come....the long wait for Sarah helped bring in NC12.

Egypt, Croatia (via NY), Serbia, Spain (?), Ecuador, Ireland......going International in his old age is not an indication he will retire soon or maybe he is thinking that spreading his wisdom this way is the best way to go.....and help his eventual successor? (not sure UConn can get her back from Vanderbilt).

And, this current team is potentially well equipped (though still in early formative stage in team play....including read-react skill levels) to defend the NC. Even with just the two 2026 signees, they will be up there again fighting for the top spot now and....all through the Sarah Strong years (it looks like Blanca can help a lot, too). Could history repeat itself? Four straight again? Maybe even an undefeated season or two?

Forget it.....they almost lost to Michigan, got rattled in 3Q....against a team that likes to play fast and has a true-blue sharpshooter who challenged Azzi to a duel. Ah, I forgot: they lost a number of games last year and then rose like the Phoenix to soar.

Still fun times in Storrs....

Swords scored 6 points Sunday against Syracuse in 25 minutes (3-11/0-4/0-2). Michigan won easily, though, with 21 from Delfosse off the bench and 18 from Olsen. Maybe Swords only has her best games against the strongest teams?

Michigan is not a one-trick pony. They have an excellent roster with a pair of great ones in Olson and Swords. The whole show does not depend on Syla. And they have a couple of really good guards in Holloway and Quarles-Daniels, and a few good medium bigs. I figured they'd be a tough opponent beforehand, though exactly how tough was only clear in that 18-4 quarter. In fact, this team reminds me a lot of UConn in the two Nika-Aaliyah years, when injury had sapped the roster and there were not often bigs taller than Aaliyah. What we had was a great power-forward, a fiery point guard and some great wings/SGs. We were Giant killers, and we put a scare into the other dominant programs even if we couldn't always prevail over them.

As for Jovana, I have high hopes for her at UConn. I agree that we haven't (or at least I haven't) seen what she's like as a defender. But on offense, she's much more skilled as a scorer than Nika or KK. She's fearless in the lane and knows how to protect her shot going up among the trees. It would still be nice to pair her with Jerzy, but the same urgency is not there anymore. Jovana will mainly be paired with Kelis for 3 years and Kayleigh for 2 years. And who knows if she won't get to have Morgan for 3 years. That's a formidable guard corps after her initial experience learning from KK and Ash how to play at our pace.

It's really up to Jerzy to decide if she wants to go to the most challenging program in D1 and have the best shot at an NC any coach has to offer. Or Sara Okeke. Which one will commit first? I actually have no idea if there really are offers out for both of them. But I can imagine going forward with one or the other... or neither. Every year with Sarah and Blanca and Olivia is a year when we might win it all. Storrs maybe cattle country, but it looks to be well stocked with GOATs for the near future. [cue the folks who think there's only one way to use the term GOAT, lol]
