I need to rewatch the game on ESPN3 since you tend to miss some stuff live. Just some thoughts the morning after.
Play calling / The team:
- Real dissapointed we didn't see more use of the FB to help block the pass rush
- Perhaps we all underestimated the pass blocking our senior TEs did last year
- Coach GDL needs to be released this week. I am not convinced Weist got to call the plays last night. Regardless, the o-line is an epic fail under his watch.
- I dont understand why Coach P didnt search far and wide for a couple JC transfers on the O-line. Surely the o-line play is not a complete surprise.
-Why didnt we see someone other than McCombs carry the ball? We need to mix it up out of the backfield.
- Watching that Terry McCauley highlight at the stadium reminded us all what a strong running back can do - shedding arm tackles, lowering the the shoulder. Walsh, DeLarenzo, Clax should get some touches.
- Davis and Philips looked pretty good. Davis has a chance at the next level.
- If Whitmer had time I think we'd see much better play. The problem is, our pass blocking is unlikely to get substantially better over the course of the season, so it does beg the question, at what point do you insert Taylor or Boyle - both of whom may be able to survive the pash rush better. Perhaps after the Michigan game.
- Our linebackers looked slow and lacked punch. We should see more Vann for Donohue going forward. Graham Stewart did seem to play better in the second half
- Obi looked real good at times.
- D-line get handled by Towson. On the 1080 pregame show I believe they said two of Towson's lineman are likely to be drafted.
Stadium
- the HD score board was terrific, found myself watching it sometimes rather than the game
- they could use a few less tv timeout ads. obviously thats not going away, just saying.
- I hate the third down - guns and roses music and I love G&R.
- The toasted sandwiches from the lunch truck are great - try em.
- I thought the students section looked like a ton of fun. It was packed until the blow out was on. Band was good too. And those dancers, nice.
- $11 beers are a little surprising.... oh well.
- The fan base was exactly what I expected. I cant bring myself to boo however. I'll boo a pro team, but not a college team. These are kids after all. I know the boos are directed at the coaching staff, but still...
