One of Mike Rice's assistants was likewise accused of abuse and dismissed. Martelli, son of the better known coach of that name from Philadelphia.
The other 2 are still there and so far as I know were not guilty of anything (and we really have no idea if they reported the behavior to the administration); additionally, although one of the Georgetown assistants was suspended, the article I read about the head coach's dismissal stated that the assistant was not guilty of abusive behavior and was reinstated.
There were no crimes here, so silence is probably not a punishable offense. As has been often pointed out, there is plenty of verbal abuse by coaches (watch some football games and wonder what the coach is saying when he is screaming into a player's face, possibly while gripping his helmet). While Rice far crossed the line, I suspect the exact location of the line is difficult to determine, especially if you are involved with the team.
More significant to me - and what concerns me - is the players at Georgetown, Louisville and Rutgers who found no fault with that behavior in a coach.
And this is not comparable to Penn State. That was a crime and was covered up. Rutgers never covered up what Rice did, they just didn't stress the extent and didn't apply the remedy that folks would demand once they knew the extent.
