Question About Transferring Without Waiting A Year

This is what was announced April 15th 2021 and happened last year, correct? Because the pandemic is still in force with many cancelled games is it likely to happen again this season? It would seem so. One or two key players can have an enormous effect on a team because it has both good and bad potential.

You no longer have to sit out a year if it's your first transfer. Even for in conference transfers.

Yes it happened for the first time this past summer, but it’s an entirely new rule, not an exception that was made for the pandemic. Going forward, transfers will be able to play immediately at their new school (as long as it’s their first time transferring).

Thanks for clarifying, but it’s a big concern for players who feel like they are being shorted on PT and that is the reason most of these guys want to move.

I believe iirc I read that said recruit did mention prior to arriving at UConn that he would have to work hard and that's is what he liked about Hurley. Opposed to the other high profile teams that were recruiting him.

The new rule really helps schools like SHU and PC who have good coaches but aren’t able to recruit at the level of a UConn or Nova. It’s really leveling the field.

I think you are right; it has nothing to do with the Boneyard.

But players who think they are being unjustly denied playing time no longer have to put up with coaches priorities of how things are going to be when there is absolutely no penalty for a first time transfer. That could be a sea change for recruits and will certainly cause some coaches to rethink their playing time philosophies.

Time will tell.

Every player that comes here agrees they will work hard to earn their PT. But if they're not getting it they have a different view which is they should be out there more. Even if Hurley sees something different from them in practice. There are a lot of players and only so many minutes. We have at least 2 players now that probably feel that way, but who knows if they will want to leave. Can't be predicted at this point.

the only thing that might happen again as a result of canceled games is that the ncaa gives everyone another year of eligibility, but i doubt theyd do it in back to back years. plus, hopefully most of these games end up getting rescheduled not canceled.

Not having to sit out a year will absolutely lead to more transfers. But guess what? You can’t build a team with 13 players in the rotation. So some won’t be playing and coaches just now have to deal with it.
