Texas A&M fans were also shocked by Vic going to UT. They felt all along that Vic was headed back to College Station as soon as Gary hangs up his whistle. I cannot imagine where a bidding war between UT and TAMU would end up. Both of those AD's have money to burn.

Ok so let me ask this, what loyalty does Vic have for Texas A&M? I mean at what point is money moot and the "character issue come into play"? To me, he was an assistant at A&M under Blair, he has loyalty him, not to the A&M Program. Let's not forget Blair coached Stephen F Austin, Arkansas then A&M and Vic also coached at Sam Houston State before MSU. I think A&M is out on the cold on this succession issue..

I think it’s mostly because he is an A&M alum.

Vic is almost 60. I figure he wanted to finish out his retirement in Texas. Got to have those years in. If things go good, great. If they go bad he retires in 4 or 5 years and has a big state retirement on top of savings.

Yes he is a grad and I’m sure he loves the school. However he is originally from Austin and his family (sister) lives there. I am not so sure that he was more concerned with actually getting back to Texas as much as he specifically was in going to Texas A&M. I could see him staying at the University of Texas even if the A&M job comes open.
