My two cents (and not directed at you, personally): They are both offensive. I don’t think it adds anything to the discussion to refer to Jana by her race or national origin. Those things are not descriptors of her ability to play basketball.
For me, offensive might be too strong a wood, but there's something about both of these that rubs me the wrong way. On the other hand, Svet was sometimes called the "Siberian Husky" which I thought was humorous.

Again, unless a nickname is clearly profane or offensive, so long as an athlete embraces that nickname, I think it’s fine. Another nickname that we have all heard that has been used for years, with clear racial overtones, relates to DT. At a point in her career, the GOAT was compared to Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba. DT earned the nickname the White Mamba, which was clearly given out of respect for her agressive and competitive style of play.

Wasn't it Kobe who gave DT the White Mamba moniker?

Jana ElAlfy has been making a lot of progress during the last few games. With Ice out, and we don't know how long that will be, Jana has taken advantage of the increased playing time.
The next few weeks will tell whether or not there is some irony at play here.

Last year when Edwards went down during the BE tournament, Ice stepped up in a way that I think few on this forum expected.

Wouldn't it be great (and a bit ironic at the same time, IMO) if Jana steps up in the same way during the BE tournament if Ice is still recovering? We certainly saw some promise against South Carolina. Hoping to see more tonight against Creighton.
