Purdue banner hanging

Just watched Purdue hang a participation banner for last year's final. Good for them.

Earning a Final Four banner is a tremendous achievement. Congrats to Purdue. They are schools all over the country that would love to be able to hang a single FF banner.

That is not a participation ribbon. It is one of the most sought after banners in college sports.

Does Gampel have a 2009 Final Four banner? I don't think so but I'll check on Wednesday. Maybe it just gets lost behind all the National Championship banners.

Years ago the NCAA did a consolation game for the FF losers. So it was sort of a big deal. In fact i think it was in a consolation game that Bill Bradley set the tournament single game scoring record that maybe still stands.

The banner Purdue hung tonight says "2024 Final Four" and "National Finalist"... The word champion is not in evidence... Sure, I was being a little snarky, but I'd feel the same way about seeing that banner in gampel.

I remember when JC was the best coach never to make one.
You have to feel for Purdue
The Last time they made it that far that ran into a UCLA team at its height.
This time they ran into the 21st century equivalent to that dynasty UConn.

I guess that's not awful. By definition, you'd expect a team making the Final Four to win the championship 1/4 of the time. They're slightly ahead of pace.

I recall many years ago, circa 1988, after UC won the NIT, and we made a big deal about it, Villanova, and their coach Rollie Massamino denigrated it, with their 1985 NC banner. So, in a way, what goes around, comes around. Let Purdue revel with their "participation" banner.
Bottom line is that we have the NC banner, the trophy, the rings, and the adulation. End of discussion.
