Here is what I have observed so far; 1. Walker can, and must, do it all every game. 2. Dangerfield looks like she is still in recovery mode, rather than 100% healthy. She is still very good. 3. Williams is hot and cold. We need her hot all the time. She missed a couple of open shots early in the second half against, Vandy, and went into a shell. 4. Olivia is definitely working toward excellence. She must hit some outside shots, or she will be left unguarded ( as yesterday ) whenever she leaves the paint. She is getting sharper and we have reason to be encouraged. But she likely won't hit greatness until next year. Defense first, then offense. 5. Anna and Aubrey will share the fifth spot all season, I would guess. Anna has to hit some of her threes to start remembering that she can do it. And everything positive Aubrey does will add to her confidence. Right now, she is a shaky, somewhat overwhelmed, freshman. Anna looks confident and is a scrapper. Both will play critical roles this season, and both can do nothing but get better. 6. Kyla and Molly are what they have always been, I guess. So Geno does not need to see them on the court. 7. The transfer from Murray State is not going to add anything. She will be a largely ineffective 1 minute replacement for Olivia. So the issue is this; the team can be very competitive as long as they don't wear out. There are four players who, in any difficult game, will play 40 minutes each. That is a tough standard to live by. And it is noteworthy that Vanderbuilt won the fourth quarter yesterday, and our starters were still playing. Any injury or persistent, early foul trouble, spells doom. We have a six player team, and two are freshmen who are new to the UCONN system. We need to adjust our expectations, and enjoy watching this team develop.
