AI summary:

For a UConn fan, this was a gritty, uneven win that showed both depth and resilience. The Huskies didn’t shoot particularly well overall (45% from the field), and several starters struggled to find rhythm, but they won the possession battle and eventually wore Providence down. UConn finished with 87 points, out-rebounded the Friars 37–35, and generated 23 assists, a big number that reflects ball movement even when shots weren’t falling cleanly.

The story of the night was the frontcourt and bench impact. Tarris Reed Jr. was a force inside, going 8-for-9 from the floor with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks, completely changing the game when he was on the court. Eric Reibe was flawless offensively (6-for-6, 14 points, 8 boards), giving UConn interior efficiency Providence couldn’t match. UConn also dominated the offensive glass (15 offensive rebounds), creating extra chances that steadily broke Providence’s resistance.

The guards had a mixed night shooting, but they made winning plays. Silas Demary Jr. and Malachi Smith combined for 13 assists and hit timely threes, while Alex Karaban filled the stat sheet with 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks despite a rough shooting night. Providence got strong efforts from Jamiir Jones and Jaylin Sellers, but UConn’s depth, rim protection, and extra possessions ultimately decided it. Not a masterpiece — but the kind of physical, grown-up win that good teams stack as the season moves on.

I give Providence a lot of credit, they just refused to give up so many times. They are more talented than their record shows.

Solo is clearly playing injured and being a warrior for us out there, I give him a lot of credit too.

20 wins, one loss. Keep them coming I don’t care how stressful they are.

What a mess.

Very good shooting night from Demary and Malachi, good minutes from Reibe, contributions from Reed.

But the turnovers, the carelessness, the inability to stop drives on defense, and most infuriating, the poor block outs and poor rebounding (until the final minutes when we rebounded great), it was a bit demoralizing.

I thought they shot OK all game, especially with Demary and Malachi doing well, but to be this close with Providence, on a night when Providence wasn't playing lights out, when you're shooting decently, but you're sloppy and not playing D.

I was thinking of Calhoun tonight: "Hit somebody !!!"

If there ever was a burn the tape game that was it. In addition to being a horrible game to watch, if I never hear those two announcers again, I'll be a happy man. How many times were they talking about it being such a great win for Providence if they were to pull it out. Good grief! I hope they never pair those two together again.

Man I’m so tired of these short leashes on guys we’re going to need later on.

If other guys are playing well while others are playing poorly, fine. But when it’s just a matter of other people are allowed to make a million mistakes with no accountability and one mistake can get a player benched is when it’s frustrating. If you want to have a standard have a standard for everybody.

Great job by PC to play with high intensity and some individual great play. UConn answered every time they had to. Way to gut out a tough win against a team that’s much better than their record. 2.5 hours for a game that ended in regulation-yuck….

Silas FGA's need to be in the dbl figures, especially with Braylon out. No reason for Solo to be firing away with a jacked up wrist when it was clear he didn't have it from long range.

Malachi 3s were the difference tonight, we'll ignore another botched wide open layup and free throw shot with zero confidence.

Another ugly win but still a win. As I said in the chat, it feels like we play up or down to our opponent.

I think we’re going to be solid come tourney time when hopefully everyone is healthy, but watching some of these slogs makes me want to squirt gasoline into my eyes and light a match.

When we score we don’t defend. When we defend we don’t score. Just do it at the same time.

However, PC is the worst type of bad team. They actually don’t suck. They have tons of talent offensively. Some of the buckets they scored weren’t because of bad defense. They were just talented buckets. Kim English is terrible.
