Prolific Prep moving from CA to FL....

Most HS basketball fans in NorCal are rejoicing... There was LOTS of resentment of Prolific Prep by fans here from their beginning; many wouldn't go to a Prolific game if they got free tickets, a ride to the game, and dinner after.

Prolific has lots of prep-academy company in Florida whereas they were practically a lone wolf in NorCal.

I wonder if there is as much vitriol against prep academies in other parts of the country? For example, do most (or at least many) Indiana HS hoop fans have hate for La Lumiere?

NIL epicenter is in the southeast, making it the top location for 5* players looking to max out their value.

Definitely not on the east coast

The difference is that La Lumiere is a private school with a lot of history and actually has students. Prolific Prep is just a factory for athletes to get a fake degree and go D1.

This.

The PreK-8th school where I teach has a handful of students who graduate and head to private schools like La Lumiere, in where they are real schools with real acceptance rates...but then alternative acceptance rules for "athletes only" depending on the school's quota.

Especially in Fairfield County. Plenty are competitive schools to get into, but they have a small fraction of students that are simply there just because they are good athletes. I was chatting with a math department head from one of the school our graduates matriculate into...super competitive school, but they have to literally make up classes (especially at the higher graders) for the athletes that are weaker students just to appease the NCAA. The names of some of these 11th and 12th grade classes are hilarious.

From what I understand, while Prolific isn't a school in itself, it had a strong association with nearby Napa Christian HS, and that's where the kids' curriculum came from. Even the laptop programs they used to study while on the road. And the kids had to keep their grades up or risk not playing.

Considering it wasn't a full-on-campus school, they seemed to do everything right.

Sounds like it'll become a full-time school with its own campus in Floriduh.
