Zone blocking isn't the problem per se. The coaches that implemented it are the problem.

We're just rehashing at this point. P and D failed to implement a successful offense in their first two seasons here. It wasn't because they didn't have talent. We definitely had enough talent to beat WMU, Temple and USF. Good grief USF had the worst defense in the league. How many points did we score against them? 6?

The Athletic Director, directs the head coach to make a change at Offensive Coordinator. And the weasel doesn't have the good grace to fire the OC and remove him from the staff completely? WTF is that? Why would you burden the new guy with supervising the old Offensive Coordinator? It's absurd.

You guys concoct all these excuses for P and D and you wonder why we call you apologists?

I have zero confidence that the line will improve, because the same guy is coaching the line. Our best hope is that the new OC will implement more short passing and less seven step drops.

I don't think you lose to a WMU or terrible Temple
I will agree -- but dont forget that RE lost to BC twice in the last 2 years with a maryland team that won 10 games the year before he got there.

Good coaches don't lose to BC either.

P.S. He also lost to Pasqualoni & DeLeone. That's worse than just about anything.

I'm hoping that replacing Deleone as OC will lead us to at least 7-5, record and a minor bowl. If he can't accomplish that, then P has run out of time.

Edsall beat Temple one year by the smallest of margins. It took a HD TV to prove the win.

PP lost to Temple this year by an incredibly small margin (3 missed makable FG's).

Well the last two years we will have produced one offensive player with a legit chance at NFL. Two with Kashief, who I felt was under utilized his entire career at UConn.

I really hope the whole jaguar thing was because P felt the players behind McCombs were a big drop off. Otherwise its difficult to understand why you would rotate offensive linemen but not running backs.

Did you see Max run?

I was responding to a statement about QB's. I try not to veer off topic to spin things in my favor.

McCombs is more than capable and if we had stuck with the proven power blocking that was so successfull in helping Brown, Dixon and Todman who knows. An even more successfull running game would have helped the passing game even more.

Except our QB would still be running for his life due to...wait for it..due to the fact we were using a blocking scheme that I agree we didn't have the talent for.

I think we had to change our offense to move up in the world.

Edsall's schemes were extremely efficient at beating inferior teams and decent at beating similar teams. They absolutely sucked at beating top 25 type teams. And sucked at staying within 30 of top 10 type teams.

I don't mind the suffering if we get on the right track.

I get the feeling that several posters on here would be disappointed if PP went 9-4 next year because that would mean he would be still coaching.

Not me, I would be excited for year 4 and 5.

... understatement of the year.

Anytime someone offers a different view or opinion than yours - they become an apologist on that topic (coaches, offense/defense, school adminstration, conference commisioners, etc)? You like to throw the word "apologist" around like it's a dirty word. Aw hell - been called worse. :p

That's because any POV that doesn't include the fact the coaches failed is wrong.

I just saw someone ACTUALLY say that it's ok if we had these two bad years as long as we get back on the right track. WRONG.

These two past seasons were completely unnecessary. Nobody held a gun to Pasqualoni's head to hire George DeLeone, a proven failure as the OC. Nobody held a gun to his head to demote Foley, the guy who had made our offensive line pretty much the pride of the program.

I just wish you people would be real about the gross level of mismanagement that has happened here. He was the wrong hire and he has set this program back by years.

He's already proven that he makes terrible decisions. Even if he brings in better recruits, he'll still make terrible decisions. He is what he is.

Sometimes with people like you - it's just as much fun to take the other POV (kinda like the game you make it.)

I just wish "us people" could crtique your job in real life as objectively as you judge others.:D

Well, if you were paying me 1.5 Mil a year, then that is exactly what I signed up for. It comes with the territory.

Do you think Paul Pasqualoni has been giving us 1.5 mil in value each season?

Nope... but I also don't think many coaches do.

Usually when you support someone you have something to support. What has PP done we don't give him credit for?

If we were to pay Pasqualoni based on his performance, how much do you think we should give him?

In my opinion we're paying at least one million a year too much. There are head coaches that kicked his ass this season that were fired. He may actually end up owing UConn money.

In the real world Zoo, you and I both know that "who you know" and "experiance" raises the rate of pay despite actual performance. Hell - there are weeks that I think I make too much money for what I accomplished (not often - but occasionally).

We are talking real world. And I know that you would never look me in the eye and say that Paul Pasqualoni is giving us our money's worth.

What will it take for you to say that Paul Pasqualoni has failed to deliver and that he should be replaced? Another 5-7 season? A 1-10 season?

At what point will you run out of excuses for him?

There are worse coaches in the business than PP. He has run a clean program and by many accounts has helped players to be better. His record @ UConn is what it is. If he doesn't get us back to a bowl game this year -he should be replaced.

This is all apologia. Thinking like this is why we aren't allowed to have nice things.

He's a nice guy? That's your argument?

I wasn't arguing - you asked a question, I answered.

There's no changing your opinion. It's a dead end discussion. Moving on...

You keep confusing proof with the words coming out of your mouth. You weren't a science or engineering major at UConn, were you?

And if you were, then that doesn't bode well for the Science and Engineering Dept.

Do you seriously think he makes good decisions on an actual football field? Maybe you and SDhusky can chip in and send him one of those "How To Manage the Clock in the Game of Football DVDs".

Good Head Coaches don't get directed by their bosses to replace coordinators. Thats what happens to underperforming coaches who are on the brink of being fired.

Time will tell. Pasqualoni's mistakes just prove he's human. Did you see what Saint Saban did with the Miami Dolphins? Nobody's perfect. Turns out coaching is actually pretty difficult. Unless you're doing it from your couch. In which case, you're probably undefeated over the last 3 seasons. Well done, ZooCougar. Third straight Coach of the Year!

Saban wasn't a good fit in the NFL. I think we can all agree he's a pretty adequate coach at the college level.

The fact that coaching is difficult doesn't make it alright that Pasqualoni is doing not so great job here. That's not an adequate apology for his performance.
