Whatever happened with Lagow - if this kid becomes a player for wherever he goes and it is not Storrs, CT, this coaching staff single-handedly just blew this entire program apart. At the position we have had struggles with, the most important position on a football team, if this staff pulled an offer becasue of some confusion, then Warde needs to act like an administrator at this school. I don't care if we got Boyle. This kid was the biggest marketer of the University and he wasn't even getting paid for it. Disgrace.

Apparently the original poster (didn't use OP as it may have confused the OP) is not aware of the recruiting board where multiple discussions on this matter are STILL taking place.

I sort of understand what you are saying. If Lagow goes somewhere and is great and Boyle stinks up the joint then in hindsight it would be a terrible decision. But even though I was hoping Lagow was going to be a Husky because of the reasons you stated, I totally agree with the coaches decision.
Boyle was at minimum as highly regarded as Lagow. He wants to come here. He is from CT. He is from one of, if not the most perennially powerful CT high school. He is not afraid to have another QB in his class to compete against. What are the coaches supposed to do. Their job is to make UConn FB as strong as possible. Is recruiting a cutthroat business, no question. I really feel bad for Lagow and I hope the best for him. He seemed like a great kid and really marketed UConn. I hope he lands at a great college and plays well.
There may be more to this story then we know. If Lagow was wavering at all, then UConn coaches needed to look in another direction. We may never know the true answer to this. I do find it interesting that there has not been much buzz on other schools interested in Lagow. It will be interesting to see were he ends up. With all that said I still wish he would sign with us.

He could be waiting to see if any QB's transfer out, thus thinning the herd and the competition. It's one thing if your competing against another high school senior and a Juco transfer. But add a Junior backup QB(McCummings) and a redshirt that is highly regarded in this state and that's a lot of QB's to wade through for practice/playing time.

Now in saying that this kid should figure he's played against better competition than Boyle or Cochran so at worst he's on a level playing field with them. Why he got cold feet at the very end is anyone's guess.

No disgrace is involved. UConn can't MAKE anyone sign a LOI. He chose not to sign. Ask him what his reasons were. It's ALL on him.

If I see another Lagow thread I'm going to blow a gasket. This is ridiculous.

It'll be someone's bulit in excuse for the next decade. "If we only got Lagow back in 2013...."

If PP can stop being the self that got him fired at his last three jobs (if I am correct), Lagow can become a great asset for the university.

What does this mean? Lagow still wants to come if PP __________________________?

this board is starting to follow the bball boards path to ville. lagow was a verbal commit. we clearly were looking for 3qbs all class. we got the w/o and we eventually landed boyle instead of a reach elsewhere(kid from va we were high on named ford i think...). wether lagow was actually sick on NSD and ddidn't know how it worked and decided not to contact the staff(sounds silly hugh???) or he was really looking elsewhere(hinthint) doesn't matter. he didn't sign, its 100% on him not uconn or this staff. i am the crazy guy i am and i can't blame the staff. think about that. they did the right thing and did it quickly. end of story.

What happens if Boyle turns out to be a better player than Lagow?

My money says that if Lagow was from Idaho instead of Texas people would be happy to take a CT kid who is similarly regarded and hope that the Idaho kid also decided to come. As long as the staff was up front with Lagow about taking multiple QBs in this class then they haven't burnt any recruiting bridges in Texas. That's really the only concern.

People bitched and moaned about us not having most of the top CT kids coming here when Edsall was the coach and now that this staff seems to have rebuilt those relationships, people are going to bitch and moan about passing up on other kids. You can't have it both ways. People get passed over for other players. It happens. If getting Cochran and Boyle in consecutive years helps build a tradition of top CT players coming to UConn it will be good for the program. Yeah if Boyle is terrible and Lagow is great then it's a horrible blunder. But I think the odds are just as good that Boyle will be good and Lagow will be terrible. Then people would be saying 'how did we miss a kid that was playing high school ball right in our backyard?'

Then there's the fact that there's a decent chance that neither of these kids would see the field until their Senior year. Whitmer has the job locked up for 2 more years. Then they would have to battle with Cochran who was similarly regarded coming out of high school and has a year head start on them.

Danny boy....Do you think big time programs are still talking about 3 star players who decided to go elsewhere?

No way is Whitmer a guaranteed lock for the next two years. Or even a lock for next year. We have yet to see what Cochran can do.

no because they landed other 3 and 4* players. syaing were big time is a lie. we can't get a fanbase to wear a color or a coach to wear soemthing uconn. dont kid yourself were far from big time right now and thats my beef.

But but...PP didn't wear a blue tie!

ppl like u who think this small issue is funny are the reason uconn will never reach big time sports. u all have to think of skulls to realize it and think its silly but the truth is if stuff like that didn't matter and was stupid, then the rest of the country wouldn't do it. the seton hall coach did it this past weekend. seton frucking hall. the last time they were relevant on the bball court was never and yet they get it. once again, i dont expect this to get thru your skull as u are probally so high that snoop dog looks like michael jackson in your dreams.

I was making a joke, dumb*ss. I know how big programs work. Perhaps you should find something more meaningful to do.

really, u know how big programs work? then we need to get u to storrs asap becuase they have no frucking clue. hopefully temple doesn't steal your talents first before we get u under contract. pop warner is one hell of a sob even from his grave under some little league field.

Whitmer could be one more concussion away from retirement. Certainly is always one play away from being done, as is any player.

I am very interested in seeing Cochran in the spring game. No one works harder than him, IMO, and he is as smart as you can be in the class room and on the field. With his father's influence something tells me he is confident as can be and tough as nails.

Certainly has no fear of competition. :D

P.S. Notice I didn't mention you know who?

Dan you missed my point. Big time programs don't lose sleep when a 3 star player goes alsewhere.

You/we need to just move on. Right now we are acting small time.

Who cares. I like who we got at QB.
