Prognosticators Game 17 (Providence) Predictions

UConn wins 85-51 with the bench playing most of the last 8 minutes!

Hungry Huskies feast on Friar chicken:

UConn 86
Providence 45
MOV = 41

Hard to get a real feel for PC - they are smack in the middle of the conference - Better than SJU - a team they beat by 7. But they have a trio of 20'ish point losses to DePaul, Creighton, and Villanova, and they just lost to SHU by 20. I feel like this should be a 30+ point MOV.

UCONN is getting better game by game, and as Azzi proved, with her splashy return, she's more than just a 3-point specialist. Maybe her great shooting has given the rest of the team the chance to relax a bit when shooting their own 3's - Nika, Evina AND Azzi all shot 50% from 3 vs. DePaul, and the team as a whole shot 40%.

UCONN 86
PC 54

After the rugby match against DePaul this one should be more like a walk in the park, as long as UConn comes to the game focused on this match-up and not on their next opponent Creighton who is in second place behind UConn. Providence averages 60.8 points a game, with their at home Conference losses are to Georgetown, Creighton, DePaul, and Seton Hall. With a road loss at Villanova and had to go into overtime to win at Georgetown. They play @Creighton on Friday before playing UConn on Sunday.

Their highest points scored in Conference play is 77 points in the 98-77 loss at home to DePaul, and all of their losses except for Georgetown has been by double digits, to include Seton Hall which was a 20 point loss, a team UConn has beaten twice by 25 and 33 points. This game should allow Geno to get some more playing time for all of the bench players that are physically capable of playing and rest for the starters for the game at Creighton on 2/2.

Geno starts the five that started against DePaul so they get more time to gel into a solid unit and will sub with others to see what works and what needs more practice so that they are ready for the week ahead, 2/2 @Creighton, 2/4 Butler, and 2/6 Tenn at home. UConn 103 - Providence 55. All predictions and any changes must be submitted 7:30 PM Eastern. (Note: Game was moved to 7:30 PM)

Any changes submitted must state that it is a change to a previous prediction and it replaces it or the change will not be allowed. I will notify the poster of any request for change that does not meet the requirements so that it can be included. An accepted change request will be noted by a like to the request. Attached is the Prognosticators Predictions Rules and Scoring criteria. Good Luck to all you Prognosticators out there.
91 - 54 UConn

With a deeper roster and 4 days to prepare, I expect UConn to build off of their win at DePaul with a solid effort in Providence.

UConn 78 - Providence 54

UCONN 85 PC 45 MOV 40
UCONN continues with it's defense pressure and
everyone works on their smoothing out the
timing and passing accuracy. Go Huskies!

UCONN 101
Providence 56
CW, Azzi, Caroline Ducharme. EW, ONO. DJ, NM, & AE go crazy for biggest offensive showing of the season!

Creighton scored 95 points against Providence last night which means the Friars' defense is suspect. UConn should be able to match or exceed 95 points. With Christyn and Azzi back in the mix, UConn should be able to score at least 25 points a quarter against most BE teams. Azzi gets "dialed in" early and goes for 20+ points. Hopefully this game won't be postponed because of the storm coming through the northeast region this weekend. This game gets ugly early.

UConn 106 - Providence 52

Looks like the storm will be through New England by 7:00 pm tonight. After that, it'll be up to the CT & RI DOT's to get US 44 plowed. Normally it's a straight shot on US 44 from Storrs to Providence, about a 1 1/2 hr drive.

Those were going to be my numbers. But I'll stand down and leave this one to you. Good luck!

PS. I hope we're right.
I claim no ownership of the numbers. Feel free to use them and we both win.
