It still seems that Sherrifs has the run first mentality. I'm not sure it's totally on the line. He completely missed Thomas on that last drive when he was wide open. I am not impressed with the line but I feel like Sherrifs isn't doing his part and looking downfield a bit first. Seems he still has happy feet.

I'd have happy feet too if I didn't feel secure in the pocket. It's up to the o-line to prove themselves before Sherrifs can trust them.

Maine controlled both sides of the ball. Their QB had all day to sit in the pocket and pick apart our apparently woeful secondary. Our OL was also terrible. Even if they're stacking the box, you should be able to get a couple of yards of separation. Old UConn OL's could stuff it down their throat even when they saw it coming. This is Maine, not Houston. Shirreffs didn't do us any favors by constantly looking to run first, but his throwing wasn't inspiring much confidence either.

What I'm saying is that it's going to be a long season.

Just got home. What a brutal performance. Might be the most disappointed I've ever walked out of the Rent given everything.

We better fix this sheet. My fears about Peart were mocked by the pollyannas. God that was awful. Goodnight all.

Peart can not be on the field if he plays like that. I understand he is a freshman. He was a turnstile.

The rest of the o line was abysmal. No way to sugarcoat it. Going to be a long year in the trenches again.

Tough game. I'm hardly impressed but at least we got the W and showed some balls after the fumble and getting down 7.

We were not the better team tonight in any phase of the game, except special teams (which were outstanding by the way) but still avoided the complete embarrassment.

And I have to give Maine a lot of credit. They came in to win this game and damn near pulled it off.

The best runs of the night were to the left side of the line throughout the night. I am not sure why it was so hard to run behind two of the largest lineman on the team. The right side of the line should dominate a team like Maine.

They came in more prepared than UConn, no doubt. I put that on the coaching staff

I Line was terrible tonight, but I put some of the blame on play calling. Unimaginative at best. It seemed to me that Maine played to win, UConn played it safe.

Yes, No signs of Will Beatty, Zach Hurd or Donald Thomas tonight.

This performance better be a window coating because next week we are gonna get our asses kicked all over the field by Navy if we're doing that "putting another coat of paint on" thing again...
Then all the the pro UConn to the B12 folks will stop posting all that BS on Twitter about how much better we are than other schools for the B12. Newsflash, after this performance, there's no way in hell we can justify being any better for the B12 than Arkansas St (being a bit generous, their offensive moves better than ours) and/or UCF....not after that performance.

The season is now. With an offensive philosophy of playing not to lose, depend on your strength, the defense (which looked offensive last night), it's, dare I say it again, inexcusable.

Agreed. A bit vanilla offense. Predictable. Pre-season is over.

One other thing that sucked last night was that one announcer. Put somebody in there that actally knows what players play with what team.

Levy and Hopkins were the weak parts of the line last night.

Vechery did well after he replaced Hopkins.

I thought the Richard Levy Project was going to end after the second series. He must have missed 3-4 blocks in that span. I think he even crossed over and into the left side without touching anybody. I don't see him getting to the second level on a LB. Verducci needs to throw more on first down to help these guys out. The first time was mid-third quarter.

Shireffs can't throw, easy to defend.
Unfortunately, he's not a QB. Pretty good running back, plays hard but not particularly smart. Has very poor vision and doesn't appear to go through any progressions with receivers. His lack of height doesn't help but it's more mindset and lack of QB talent.
