press availability hurley (finals)

Watching this, both May and the players reference Iowa as a comparable team to UConn. And to an extent, I get that. They play a slow deliberate game, defense has some similarities too (though less high hedging) but man and a good amount of communication. Iowa also puts up a decent number of threes on good passing.

The biggest diference though is how Iowa actually gets those threes. They do a lot of one-on-one and on ball screening and either have Stirz shoot, or kick it for a swing pass. They have some off ball cutting but it's not that much. They mostly just keep a player near each corner and another on the other side of the ball/screener.

It's shades of Purdue (or was it Illinois) in 2024 saying they have seen everything in the B1G and how other teams play similar to UConn there. I just don't see it. At all.

This has to be a smokescreen right? May is a better coach than this.

Personally, if I were going to pick a team from the B1G that is similar, I guess I'd go Nebraska - though even they do a lot less off ball than UConn and empty out one side for the pick/roll game.

EDIT: I should say, that my comments are really only watching those teams play against Michigan, so maybe they ran more stuff/actions off ball against other teams.

Cool, let them think we're just like Iowa.
