Never mind the asterisk that ought to be next to Arena’s record. Losing to basically a USL team made him infamous.

On balance, Bradley was probably even better.
40-12-25 (61.25%)

Agree the T&T game, along with the 0-4 loss to Spain, the 1-3 loss to Poland, and now this 0-2 to Venezuela are probably the worst losses in recent years. (oh yea, and Klinsy getting throttled by Costa Rico 0-4.)

However, Berhalter has shown that he is all for going after the title, even if it means making sacrifices that will hurt the U.S down the line.

Sad thing is USA isn't winning the Gold Cup anyway.

Costa Rica was a better team. And didn't BusinessLawyer’s hero Bruce Arena turn around and lose to them at home?

Most of Jurgen’s reign was positive. Bruce gave us 2006 and missing the World Cup.

guy.

Shouldn't have been. And certainly shouldn't have been 0-4 better.

Yea, but they didn't get throttled 0-4.

Arena also gave us 2002. And Klinsmann is also responsible for missing the World Cup. (along with the Federation, AND the players)

Still, if Arena doesn't soil himself in the big spot we go to the WC. What makes it worse is that USA Soccer learned absolutely nothing from the entire debacle.
Sure. But the players helped out there also. And if anywhere along the line Klinsy hadn't screwed up, etc. Lot's of blame to go around.

You mean in 2002 where we lucked out and drew Mexico in the knockouts.

In 2002 where we were pummeled by a Poland that everyone in the group beat handily but us?

I was at the 2002 WC. I went to every US match. It wasn’t as impressive when you delve into the details.

Bruce also struggled a bit in qualifying for that one.

We only went through because of a wonder goal by South Korea.

So I was at the Poland game which was at the same time as the that game. Poland was burgeoning us, but Arena’s plucky USA team didn’t give up until that goal. Poland basically let the US have the ball and the US just kind of passed the ball around until the whistle blew.

Up until that point it really felt like we were going home because we were, the other two games felt like fool’s gold.

LOL. It had nothing to do with getting 4 points from our first two games? Nothing at all?

That’s not the only way this works. Without that goal we’re talking about why 2002 was a failure.

Jurgen getting through the Group of death was a better achievement, even better than Bob lucking through the group in 2010.

Are you kidding me? It was the last game of the group stage, we needed South Korea to beat Potrugal for crying out loud and they didn't need to win to go through. We were out until that late goal. Did Bruce buy you a beer or something?

Whether it was Arenas 1.0 team in 2002, Klinsmann's Group of Death survivors in 2014 or even Milutinović's host team in 1994, all of those teams had their strengths and weaknesses; but, they played well enough as a team, knew their roles, and fought like a mother. No way any of those teams takes a 3-0 trashing on home soil with an 'all well.'

And replaced by Reggie Cannon while Sargent is still locked away in Azkaban...

Even worse... replaced with an actual right back. Berhalter was really gonna do this.

RB Leipzig even made fun of him being listed as a defender on Twitter.

Soooo, results don't really matter to you????

Arena wasn't anything special (regardless of what he thinks of himself), but, sorry to break this to you, neither was Klinsmann. I realize you're a Klinsy apologist, but you just need to move on. He's gone now. You can fanboy over his son now if you want.

And to back that statement up, look how smoothly things have gone since JK was sacked.

You would think that we, as UConn fans, would learn that just because you do a lousy job picking someone's replacement doesn't mean that they shouldn't have been replaced . . .

This little discussion with ESPN is not going to make anyone feel more confident in Berhalter. Basically, I'm doing it my way regardless of what the roster looks like and how the finished product on he field looks.

He even managed to get his response in. Since I know that sometimes answers are taken out of context, I have no comment, except that I am concerned about his priorities.

"Think of the players [MLS has] sold in the last five years. Think of the young talents we've attracted to this league in the last five years," he said. "Think of the quality of players we have. My last year in the league [playing in 2011] think of the strikers in the league at the time. Now look at the strikers in the league. It's a different level. When you think about all the national team players we have, the younger talents we have, the transfer fees we're paying, but also the transfer fees that we're taking in is great. It was never like that."
