Transition defense by UConn will be key. PSU pushes tempo and fires up quick shots.

Among the teams that have been effective against UConn this year are those who get us to play too fast running and rushing.

Last night was a very typical of this PSU team. They do not, generally, put away teams early. Neither do they go away when behind. They have come back from 10-15 down several times this year. In that there lies a danger for this UConn team because we have let several teams back into games after breaking out into a 10-15 point lead. In the first half missing Bentley was critical.

I expect times of ugly chaos on Sunday. PSU will want to play fast and UConn has to make sure they don't get sucked into too fast a game. The key to me is UConn forcing PSU into the half court game. Scoring options for UConn are not likely to be the problem and I my long stated opinion rarely are. UConn players, genrally, score as necessary if not one of the first three options and KML will see plenty of time on the court.

All season long PSU has had the least typical Big Ten team and I think it has shown in the tourney.

The match up between CD and Lucas even if not direct will be interesting to watch since they are close friends and played together at Germantown. They, also, practiced together during CD's rehab and I think Lucas really benefitted from that adding several skills to her game and a willingness to do many of the smaller grunt things this year.

You think?

One vital characteristic of the UConn defense is the team's knack for shutting down their opponent's top scorer. Maggie Lucas is a terrific offensive player but she has not been confronted by a steady stream of in-your-face defense by Kelly, Bria, Tiffany, Kaleena and, yes, Banks.

On offense, we count on Kaleena, Bria and Tiffany to ring up numbers. And Stef. Seems the most accurate barometer is the play of Stokes. If she has a productive night, it could give UConn a huge boost.

And I like our chances.

I disagree. It seems to me that we were hurt when teams forced us to go zone.

Against a 3 point shooting team if we don't press the shooters we could be in serious trouble.

Peace,

Several times during the year our offense broke down into disorder when attempting to run with other teams like ND like like to push the ball. It led to problems with TOs.

PState isnt ND

No, but their style and desire is to play the game at a similar frenetic pace.
I'm sure there are other teams that play that style and desire to play at a simialr frenetic pace. But they don't have the talent of ND. And neither does PSU. I know you know that.

I think PSU tries to play fast and get UConn rushing but that will be fatal. UConn has been playing with excellent discipline lately.

I expect PSU under 60 for sure because they have never in the Big Ten faced anything like UConn's D. There is simply nothing on their schedule to compare.
