Pre-season scrimmages (public & secret)

UNC score is a bit eye opening. Also is West Virginia going to be good this year even after Quinerly left?

I don't think so. You need to be in mid-season conditioning to play against Tennessee's system and UNC is probably still getting in that kind of shape. Honestly, any team playing Tennessee in a preseason game is a head scratcher. I don't think many teams will learn that much about themselves against that style of play.

They return Shaw and Harrison in the backcourt and add in two nice additions to the front court in McCray and Wheeler!

Also Tennessee has 8 new players this year. So a lot of adjustments for Tennessee. Including 5 freshman who are new to this style.

I understand what you are alluding to but they've been conditioning all off-season for that pace because it's their style of play.

All in all, we the fans can't learn that much about any team just based on the box score with preseason games because every team approaches them differently. Winning isn't the main objective for many, if not most, teams.

Yes when the actual games start. Is when we will learn about our teams.

I'm kinda high on Oklahoma. I know they lost some big pieces but I feel like they will have improved guard play. I'm interested to see how Baylor is. Scott is talented and they have some other good pieces. I like Iowa State a bit more than them but the big 12 seems wide open

very interested to see how well Chavez plays and how much that lifts them.

Folks need to NOT put too much into these scrimmages. Especially closed ones. coaches can work out agreements to play different ways. For example they can play 1 quarter just in half court sets. I have seen scrimmages where a coach asked that on defense full court the opposing team play 6 on 5. i have seen some that were 4v4 and 3v3. i seen one that was just 3 minute mini games with different lineups. it all depends on what the coaches want and agree upon. Thats why it's a closed scrimmage. they are NOT always full games and infact are not most of the time.

I don’t really care what the rules are.

It’s bad if you get cooked by 25 points in three quarters. Unless you are missing players.

I promise you UCONN isn’t going to go out and do that.

Well UConn did lose to Columbia in a scrimmage last season according to Geno and things still seemed to work out OK...... 😊

Yeah, and when you get beat by 25 points in three quarters that's not good.

Maybe UNC was missing players, but I'd be really worried if it were my team unless there was a really good explanation.
I'm sure it wouldn't be good--if it was a regular season game (or an NCAA Tournament game).

Since it's just a scrimmage, who cares? Y'all really want to crown or clown these teams based on a scrimmage? They don't even pop popcorn for that mess!

We just completed a WNBA season during which the newly-crowned WNBA champions (the Las Vegas Aces, who didn't have any major injuries at the time) lost a regular season home game by 53 points two months prior. So tell me again why we're supposed to be worried about a result that takes place during check notes a scrimmage?

It is not even just according to Geno. The box score was published online after Geno made the remarks about losing the scrimmage. Columbia hit a ton of 3’s.
