I'm amazed as to how they get their work done. Every time I check all they are doing is using the portal-potty, standing around in a group and talking, or just walking around.

probably because they have twice as many workers as actually needed . 3-4 guys work the morning shift while 3-4 sit around, then they switch. a couple huge machines help out too

I check the live video each day and had the same thought. No one ever seems to be working, but the building does seem to be progressing.

I went to Storrs Downtown to eat some Moes a couple weeks ago and rolled through to check this out. Looks pretty imposing in person. Also, they added signs on the outside of Gampel with the years of men's and women's titles with the new logo. New logo also on the scoreboard of the softball and baseball fields.

How is downtown Storrs looking? I haven't to campus in a few years.

First stage is great. At first I was a little disappointed in how few stores there were, but now that its complete? Plenty of places and shops etc. all things conducive to a college town, travel agency for study abroad, pizza place, Moe's, a nice place for when mom and dad are in town, etc.

The second phase, under construction now, is gigantic. Probably triple the size of phase one. Freakin gargantuan. A ton of apartments.

They built the parking garage into stage one in such a way that you can't even see it from the front or side. Really ingenious stuff.

Wow, I have got to get back there. Haven't been to campus (proper, been to some Gampel games but in and out) since 2005. I'm sure it's completely changed.

What was said above basically. Reminds me a bit of West Hartford Center but on a college student's budget; outside of the rents in these apartments: $1000 for a studio, $1400 for a 1br 1ba. I'm assuming they expect people to live together in a studio -- similar to a dorm setting. I'm sure for some people in some way this will be cheaper than on campus housing.

based on the plans I have seen and how it is coming together so far it will completely change how UConn is perceived. The rural perception should be close to gone once it is complete because the campus hasn't been truly rural as long as you have a car and are willing to drive 15 minutes. rural to me is like an hour+ from anything reasonable and several hours from significant civilization. However, students without a car will have no problem finding things to do once everything is complete. Also, 30% more undergrads should help to draw in and keep some solid businesses.
