Might as well hire him. The competition level won't be much better than the DII teams he's used to.

Side Note: I took an aptitude test in high school where it would show you what direction you should be going in and possible colleges that would fit that. Somehow Colorado School of Mines came up #1. Close to 25 years later I get the second mention of this academic institution.

He would be a strong candidate for us. I bet he won't be in Colorado for much longer.

We need an exciting style of play to get people back in the stadium. Entertain us.

Exactly. Full stadium, lots of points = better optics and better national press. It is also the style of play that make teams like Boise hard to beat by the "power" conferences in games. Very tough to prep for and to defend. This is the next guy that will take some Div I school to a top 10 ranking. And every school that passes on him will be banging their heads asking why they passed on him.

Pretty much.

Despite the perception, the NNNBE football will have some very solid teams. Boise St., SD St., UCF, Houston, SMU, Cincinnati, East Carolina, and Navy are no slouches.

Based on Sagarin ratings, UConn would have been 8th in the NNNBE in 2012, and 9th, 1 place above UCF in 2011. Guys, we have our work cut out for us to compete in the NNNBE

It will still be a pretty competitive league from a football perspective, no doubt. However, the issue is the highest ranked team according to Sagarin of the group you mentioned is Boise State at 42. North Dakota State (FCS) is 47. We will have a fun league with a bunch of teams ranked 40-80 on that poll. This does not attract people to the games or eyes to the television. It doesn't build interest. It just builds ESPN2 and ESPNU program on Thursday and Friday nights.

CU looking at him hard... they are fighting the "Big Name hire for a PAC12 school" versus the "small time local guy" perception.

I think the best move would be to make Don Brown the coach that way we dont risk losing our defense, or we can promote Hank Hughes who knows UConn inside and out better then anybody and can follow the print Randy used. Either one of these guys would be an upgrade and the best thing we dont have to start from scratch. We can move Mike Foley back to doing what he does best, thats a good core all we need is offensive coordinator who knows when and how to make an adjustment.

Look at the Sagarins from 2011: Boise St. 9, Houston 15, Cincinnati 30, Temple 46, SMU 51, USF 59, ... We are not in an easy football conference.

OK. So let's say this is a down year. Which of those matchups is attractive to a UConn fan? Boise State because they were good for a few years? SMU because they beat us after the Death Penalty? USF because they (currently) have our old coach? I totally agree that the NBE will be a very competitive conference and entertaining. It has the steak part down but there is no sizzle to attract the casual fan or national interest. Our only hope is if Boise State takes on the axx-kicker role that WVU vacated and we have 2-3 more teams that are top 25 potential year in/year out. We need buzz outside of teams leaving the conference. We need a reason for people to be excited about the UConn football product.

I don't like speculating before we know how Saturday plays out and whether or not we get to a bowl, but should we lose I'd be pulling for this scenario. DB as head coach, Hughes as DC (he's not going anywhere, but if it was the other way around, DB would head for greener pastures) would put us in a better place but without the turmoil of a completely new staff.

Win or lose on Saturday, I have to believe GDL is gone, still not sure on PP. After yesterday, I'm thinking a loss means a new HC, a win means just a new OC.

Probably want to check to see what the Colorado High School Football Coaches Association approves first though.
