Pour out a Stroh’s for the Motor City Bowl…

The way it should be. Playoffs going to expand to 16 and about 10-12 other bowls will survive.

So long Poulan Weedeater Bowl.

And I'll add this.

Bowl games screwed themselves with bloated committees, forcing schools to buy guaranteed seats, and forgetting most bowl games were supposed to be a low key relaxation reward for a good season.
They expanded too much and became TV time slot fillers and events for degeneratives who gamble.

Sorta sadz.

But NIL has sorta of dented the bowls. It what it is. Take some bowls away- perhaps 10 and lets see if schools/athletes start pining again for the old world.

One thing that will get narrower are P4/G6 match ups. The P4 will just continue to turn their nose up. Everyone will be ND - too good for a P4/G6 bowl.

And here's an idea. Enough with all these crazy bowl locations. Consolidate some into one stadium, two days or a day / night. Get more juice for the fans that make the trek. 2 games available to those there in person.
And then call it the NIT.

Just to keep things happy, I had a great time at the Motor City Bowl. Great game for our Huskies, big-time stadium, comfortable seats and partying in Greektown. Long live the Motor City Bowl. I’ve got nothing but happy memories (although it was a bit scary walking to my hotel).

Unfortunately for the G5 schools with these smaller bowls dissolving, there won't be much of any postseason to play for. Most would have to win 11-12 games to get a sniff at the CFP even if it expands to 16 or even 24.

UConn wins Motor City Bowl

There were too many bowl games anyway. Teams with 6- 6 records or sometime s 5 - 7 playing in a bowl game.

Twelve teams declined bowl invites.

With travel costs, lodging, minimum ticket purchase requirements I would suspect many teams lose money going to a bowl.

How many teams that played in bowls had interim coaches because head coaches moved on?

I do feel bad because all NCAA football players are psyched to play and represent their school in a bowl game.....oh wait, players skip the games too.

Me too I was in the UCMB and I remember Toledo talking my poop to us despite being blown out.

Bowls don't matter to the players,
I dont think that's true, and if it is it's bad for UConn since one of the main things they're playing for is a chance to go to a bowl.

Bowls dont matter for some players, namely seniors with a shot at the NFL, but that's not most players.

College Football is making itself smaller. Concentrating the assets with a limited amount of teams. Inching closer to semi pro. Playoffs making bowls less relevant. Add what Chin stated. Realignment has eliminated many rivalries. With many weeknight games with east coast teams playing new conference mates ending at midnight.

They should hope it doesn’t collapse on itself.

bowls need to matter to everyone, if they're gonna matter to anyone.
the only exceptions are army/navy/airforce.

besides those 3 programs, if you are a school who DOES care and you're constantnly being canceled on by teams that don't care, or who show up half-assed like UNC did in 2024 for us, then eventually you'll stop caring too. It only took us one year to stop caring.

So if we're going to keep trying to have bowls, something has to change to make the bowls desirable across the board, such that everyone who gets invited will 100% accept.

  • NIL changes to include bowl participation incentives/penalties to players
  • ensure portal stays closed until after CFP concludes, or at least until Jan. 1.

Camping World Stadium in Orlando is one location that was used for multiple bowl games. So it can work.
