Good age, great location with tons of Western Pa ties.

Plenty of experience coaching LB's which were beyond abysmal last year for UConn.

Went to high school just outside of Pittsburgh. Played center at Tulsa. Was an assistant coach for the Steelers during three of their Super Bowl appearances(they won 2 of 3). DC at UCLA, was an analyst at Bama. So wondering where he can recruit from, Western PA? Down South? West Coast?

How could anyone not want him with his pro experience and college experience at the highest level. He would be a welcome addition.

Plus he can show off a couple of Super Bowl Rings from his Steeler days

I’ll take anyone with some semblance of competence. Seems like it would be a solid hire, although his trajectory is moving in the wrong direction UCLA DC to NFL LB Coach to Alabama’s Defensive Microsoft SurfacePro custodian.

If he can recruit legit D-1 talent and help this program get to a bowl game who cares what trajectory he's moving in. As long as he's moving players that can play in our trajectory all is good.

So was Randy's.

Looks like it’s happening:

More and more you see coaches taking a one or two year "sabbatical" as analysts. It's almost like post-grad intensive training of seeing and learning the analytics of a position or side of the ball without the pressure of game day play calling. Recharge the batteries a bit, see a bunch of film.

Very Diaco-like career trajectory recently. Hopefully this is where their career trajectories diverge. :)

Also, if this happens, you have to assume St. Nicky gave his input to the decision. Has some level of Nick have confidence the UConn DC job isn't a guaranteed disaster. I doubt Nick would tell him he couldn't take it, but I would be surprised if Nick didn't at least give his perspective on the job.

From an article written about Spanos when he left UCLA for the Titans job; "An NFL coaching veteran who spent 16 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins, Spanos signed on with the Bruins shortly after Mora's hire in late 2011. Under Spanos, UCLA improved from 87th in FBS yards-per-play allowed to 66th in 2012, then leapt all the way to 25th in 2013. "

What is his role, responsibilities, as Alabama's "defensive analyst"? Looking at game film and reporting on tendencies? Is that a paid assistant coach job? Is this job unique at Alabama or is it fairly prevalent among P5?
