Possible use for the $20 Million- campus stadium anyone?

How about we think more realistically like building an on campus ice rink for the huskies conference move to the hockey east?

Take you common sense elsewhere! I was thinking smaller...like paying the coaches, buying uniforms, making sure we don't make the football team travel by mule.

The problem with that is there are a lot of people that look at UConn as a redevelopment anchor for Hartford. That may be good for Hartford, but I don't see how it is good for UConn sports-wise. The quid pro quo from politicians is probably the gazillion dollar funding of the tech park, jackson lab, move to downtowrn, etc.

You guys are missing the point. Instead of the basketball practice facility next to Gampel, let's build it next to the stadium. Then using the move of the Hartford Branch as a tie in, let's move it not to Hartford, but to East Hartford next to the stadium. As we continue to build, every new building should be build in the Rentschlear parcel. Eventually we move the entire main campus to East Hartford and have the University become a vibrant part of a growing city rather than out in farmland. Just like Michigan State, Georgia Tech, USC (either of them), and Wisconsin. Becomes a better draw for sports and for students since there is finally something to do other than school.

and ppl get mad at what i thorw out and about here?!?!?!?!?!?

Main Campus is never, ever moving to East Hartford. An on campus stadium will never, ever be built... Not in the next 50 years, anyway. Can we move on from these pipe dreams and keep at least a toe in reality??

how about we spend 20k on a study to put a 200mil stadium on campus and then pimp that for the minute we get a b10 invite.

Because the B1G might make delivering on that plan a condition of membership.

20k will get you about a weeks worth of traffic counting around storrs that's about it. Maybe a quick look into planning and zoning.

I'll do two weeks of traffic counting for $20k!

that would be a good thing

What fricking idiot who's never driven to Storrs would want a football stadium there? Are you going to build a new highway there too?

yes. more like 6 highways. get some shovels.

-7 to 84
-25 to 84
-11 to the 395/95 split
-384 along 6 all the way to 395
-384 along 44 to storrs and up 195 to 84 and above that to 140 all the way to bradley and down to the new 6 highway from storrs
-44 on the other side of hartford all the way to the top of rt8

That's not a terrible idea, long term that may be a great initiative.

But... aren't you supposed to be a conservative? Highway building and infrastructure is like straight out of Obama's '08 campaign platform. Obama bad! Highway bad! ;)

because we can sell the 1 in east hartford
UConn cannot sell what is not theirs. The Rent is owned by the state. The school would see zero proceeds from any sale and the state will not support an on campus facility while the Rent is still viable.

I hate the fact how Malloy is trying to improve the quality of Hartford at the expense of uconn sports. If their going to make all this money from uconn sporting events in hartford at least tear down the XL center and make a newer more modern version of what an arena should look like.

More nightmare than dream. East Hartford blows.

The Rent is going nowhere.

Moving it near campus is an admission of defeat: we will see student season tickets built into the student fee structure to address the declining ticket sales to the general public.

The General Public is aging and looking to exodus this state to preserve wealth. Young CT is poorer and increasingly minority and not as hooked as the older crowd was in the 90s. Bad demographics for growth. Good demographics for a slow decline to the 30,000 attendance level.

Won't happen during a recession and won't happen without another major tenant. When American Idol and Bruce Springsteen refuses to book the XL then they are in trouble
