Positives of playing in the big east

If you don’t believe that coaching matters, take a look at Indiana football.
Yes, a championship program does need highly skilled and athletic players. BUT, It is always comes down to the coach. Look at the following formerly successful programs that have become mediocre/not so great after the very successful coaches have left: 'Bama Football (Sabin) , Tennessee WBB (Summit), UCLA MBB (Wooden), Indiana MBB (Knight), Dolphins (Shula), Steelers (Noll). True that some programs do retain their championship identities simply because they have found really good coaches to replace the former great coach (Packers for one example). It will be interesting to see what happens to UConn WBB when Geno retires.

Since this has devolved into another conference realignment thread, here's a serious question (Seriously. Not trying to be snarky.): Would you rather be Gonzaga or Syracuse? I don't know the answer. I think short-term, it would be nicer to be Gonzaga, but in the long term I would have to imagine it's better to be Syracuse. (It pains me just to write that.)
Gonzaga is a one-trick athletic department. We are more than that.

2) Prestige schools split - I am surprised that Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Stanford, Cal, Rice and Duke continue to compete in leagues with some of the other schools they are with. Their alumni do not care at all about these schools, and with football suddenly more expensive, conference affiliation is not just free money anymore. If those 6 schools split off to form a new league, there would be 20-30 schools that would be desperate to claw their way into it. Notre Dame would probably give up football independence to join that league. There would be a backfill opportunity if this happened.
This is prob the most out there of all your prognostications. Duke just won the ACC and vandy had the Heisman runner up yet they don’t really care about football? As a Cal alum I’m not happy the PAC fell apart but the ACC is better than the new PAC/MW.

Even better, ND is going to give up independence and their nbc deal to join that hodgepodge?? How much tv revenue does the “prestige conference” earn in your fantasy and do they even get an auto bid to the cfp like ND does if they finish ranked in the top 12?

And what 20 schools would you invite to your “prestige conference”? Is Michigan coming too?? UNC? UVA? Big drop off after that to the BC/Tulane tier.

I fully reject the idea that we cannot be successful if we were to land in the ACC.

Now I'm ever more confused.

What does this mean?
Meaning, who's "situation" would you rather be in? Zags in a weird Pac w/o football, or Cuse in the ACC w/football. Or a similar situation with us in the BE w/no football.

Of course you'd not want to be either today.

Well, you'll never be a source I cite, so there's that too
No problem...But, please tell me why any P5 conference would want us to join them. For all practical purposes UConn is basically, and historically, a regional (North East) school. I say this after 3 years of flying RT every other week between Phoenix and San Diego wearing my UConn hat and I can count on 1 hand the number of UConn alumni I have met during that time period in the airports. Meanwhile, I have seen logos of just about every other major college program on hats, golf shirts and sweatshirts, but perhaps 1 or 2 Husky logos over that time period. This summer I was shopping in a pro shop on a very high end golf resort in North Scottsdale and they had course hats with college logos of every major sports program university except UConn.

Admittedly 2 small sample studies, but for these I arrived at my conclusion of the national perception of UConn as basically a regional sports school, with the exception being our MBB and WBB programs.

Are you going to respond to every post I make with an attack going forward? Just trying to get this bit you are doing.

I tend to agree with this perception. It simply doesn't have the large national alumni bases that some of these large schools in the middle of the country have. I think the NE has the lasting perception of being a liberal school/prep school haven and it's simply hard for much of the country to split it out from that. They see it as an area of the country that has culturally given up on football.

Sure but in this hypo Dan has already been at Rutgers for 8 years. Dusty May turned michigan around in his first year and is going to compete for a chip in his second so it can happen more quickly, especially if you have BIG10 money to spend.

Are you saying the Big 10 makes more money than other leagues? WOW. You must be some kind of financial genius to come up with insights like this. Thank you for sharing with us.

wasn’t the point of the post. We were discussing how long it takes to turn programs around and my point was it can happen more quickly now than in the past due to all the money that can be thrown at recruits and transfers, and yeah by schools in some conferences more so than others

The big east ain't great. But I've seen some posts, many that I agree with, that claim it can be an advantage to be able to work on some of the things we need to fix while not worrying about playing our starters 35 minutes a game.
We've earned enough quad 1 wins to help us in march.

Can we find some hidden positives about playing these upcoming games?

Some of you want Millender, Furphy and Koroma to get some run. There may be some games where you feel we can do that. Would that add to our strength?

there are a number of games that will definitely test us even though they may not give us the quad #s.

What do you LIKE about playing in this conference? Be specific

1) MSG
2) It's not the American.

I prefer being in the new BE to the freakin’ AAC. But that being said, I only get really excited for games against former BE schools. My endless sentimental side would give anything to bring back Cuse and BCU etc and tell the add ons to go find their own league. Since that will never happen, we need to try to go where the $$ is before the whole thing implodes.
If it all implodes my Dad and I are gonna resort to talking about politics every day instead. I can't afford that

The ACC of course

Geno's successor is a fascinating selection.

Chicken or egg a bit. If a program becomes prestigious under one coach, it tends to be able to lure strong coaches to follow. That school also has the ability to recruit kids given the brand, at the college level.

Their Woman's basketball is strong. Not UConn strong (Nobody is) but very good. But other sports like Soccer and Baseball don't compete nationally as well as Seattle U for instance which is a similar size school.
