The conventional wisdom is no but I agree there’s no reason to shut down the possibility 100%.

Everyone has the chance to compete for a starting spot. This visit is surely going to include the fact that Demary is on the team though. I do wonder how true that is considering how horrible Mahaney was and how we started him for 4 games. It did feel like there were some promises made there.

It doesn't take a PhD to realize that Demary and Solo are our starting guards. The only way Smith is starting is if Mullins/Stewart severely underwhelm in practice and we play 3 guards with Demary at the SF spot.

Well he's obviously not a 3.. and while there is a realm where he does out play Silas or Solo i highly doubt it happens because those two are dawgs.

If Smith comes here, there will certainly be moments when he, Demary, and Ball share the court together, because I believe Demary can guard 3s with his size. I just don’t think we’d start those three together, and I can’t see him passing either of the other two out.

He slots perfectly into the 23-24 Diarra role. That season, Diarra played 20 games of 20+ minutes, Smith would play a lot. We really missed that role last year, would help the young guys come along quicker as well.

Like ToolzieFan said in your post below, he will be on the court together with Demary and Ball due to Demary's defensive versatility. I don't see Smith starting though because his defense is not all that great, at least that is what I read from a poster on Storrs Central who claimed they read that from Evan Miya. Anyone who subscribes to Evan Miya please correct me if that is wrong.

Malachi Smith will get his fair share of minutes and I definitley would be pleased if he decides to join UConn.
